"Today we acknowledge a really terrible loss..."
The atmosphere was different in the greathall than what it usually was as we all mourned Cedric's death.
There was no candles lit, no fire to light the hall only the window's brought in light to light it up, not even the ceiling was bewitched to mock the sky outside.
and it showed the atmosphere of the room, the raw emotion of everyone.
I never knew him, never spoke to him but I knew he was a good, a brilliant wizard and I knew that he didn't deserve to be killed.
"...Cedric Diggory was as you all know exceptionally hard-working..."
I didn't look up, keeping my eyes on Draco's hand as it held mine so protectively.
"...Infinitely fair-minded and most importantly a Fierce, Fierce friend..."
Draco squeezed my hand gently as we listened to Dumbledore's speech.
It felt wrong for me to be on the verge of tears over a death of someone who I never spoke to once in my life.
"...now, I think, therefore, you have the right to know exactly how he died..."
There was a long pause and I looked up slowly at the headmaster, who didn't look hesitant, not a single bit.
He stepped forward, "...you see... Cedric Diggory was murdered!..."
His voice echoed through the great hall as we all sat as one, not separated by what house we were in or what school we attended.
Surving as a reminder that all of us are feeling the same pain and grief as the person next to us, though it hit different for some like Cho Chang.
A friend of my cousin, who dated the boy. Her head leaned on her shoulder.
"...by Lord Voldemort..."
I looked over at Draco, squeezing his hand gently when he flinched at the name telling me that he was scared of him.
"...the ministry of magic does not wish me to tell you this..."
Draco's eyes landed to me for a moment and it was the first time I saw his eyes look so dull, so colorless and it almost made me want to cry even more.
"...but not to do so, I think, would be an insult to his memory..."
I nodded lightly agreeing with him and his words.
"...now, the pain..."
His voice got darker, softer even and somehow it made everything seem more real, this actually was happening.
"...we all feel at this dreadful loss, reminds me..."
Draco's thumb ran across the back of my hand when a single tear fell down my cheek as I wiped it away.
"...and reminds us..."
I leaned my head onto Draco's shoulder as he placed his other hand on the back of mine dispite it already being held in his other hand.
"...that while we might come from different places and speak in different tounges..."
Draco's hand landed onto mine without much thought in his mind, I could tell because I heard him sniffle followed by him moving his hand up to his face.
He was crying.
"...our hearts beat as one..."
He removed his hand from mine and placed it onto my thigh, squeezing it reassuringly.
"...in light of recent events, the bonds of friendship we've made this year will be more important than ever..."
I wrapped my arm around Draco's as his thumb ran across my skin gently, most likely without his own knowledge of his actions.
"...remember that, Cedric Diggory will not have died in vain..."
Another tear escaped my eye and I adjusted my head, tilting it up to check on Draco, make sure he was okay.
"...you remember that and we'll celebrate a boy, who was..."
There was a short silence and my hand fell back onto Draco's, playing with his rings without much thought about it.
"...kind and honest..."
His hand wrapped around mine and I took note to cherish every moment with him.
"...brave and true, right to the very end."
He finished and the great hall fell silent for a while longer.
Draco's hand still wrapped around mine as I held his thumb loosely.
It was all so sad, it felt fake but so real because it was real, what happened actually happened and the dark lord was back.
The dark lord was really and truly back.
