Katherine stared at the Goblet of Fire. Its blue flames shot up as Dumbledore stood before it. It was time for the champions to get picked. Katherine looked at Cedric and saw how nervous he was. She took his hand and squeezed it, making Cedric smile at her. Suddenly the flames turned red as sparks flew from the cup. A piece of parchment flew out, and Dumbledore caught it.
"The champion for Dumstrang will be Viktor Krum!" Dumbledore announced.
Applause erupted from the tables as Krum walked to Dumbledore, who told him to go to the chamber next to the dining hall. The next champion was Fleur Delacour from Beauxbatons. Unlike the Dumstrang, the students from Beauxbatons didn't applaud their classmates. Instead, several students hung their heads or cried. Fleur too walked to the side chamber. Now it was the moment every Hogwarts student was anticipating. The flames of the goblet roared, and another piece of parchment flew out.
"The Hogwarts champion is Cedric Diggory!" Dumbledore looked at the Hufflepuff table and started clapping.
Every Hufflepuff jumped up and cheered loudly. Katherine pulled Cedric into a hug before he had to walk to the room the other champions had already entered. Katherine looked at the Ravenclaw table to spot Cho Chang. She, too, was standing, clapping her hands quickly with a blush spread across her cheeks. Dumbledore started to speak, causing the cheering and clapping to die down.
"Excellent! Well, we now have our three champions. I am sure I can count upon all of you, including the remaining students from Beauxbatons and Dumstrang, to give your champions every ounce of support you can muster. By cheering your champion on, you will contribute in a very real—" Dumbledore stopped his speech when he saw the blue flames turn red for the fourth time. A piece of parchment spat out, floating down to the headmaster's hand. The usual twinkle in Dumbledore's eyes was now gone as he read the small paper.
"Harry Potter."
Silence fell upon the dining hall. Katherine looked at Harry. His eyes were wide with the same confusion that everyone else in the room had. Harry turned to his friends for some sort of assurance that maybe he heard wrong, but Hermione and Ron just stared at him blankly.
"Harry Potter," Dumbledore called. "Harry! Up here, if you please."
Harry did as he was told and walked up to Dumbledore, who whispered something to him. Harry nodded and went to the door the other champions had gone to. When Dumbledore, Ludo Bagman, Barty Crouch, and several professors followed the boy. When they exited the hall, the silence disappeared, replaced with whispers and yells from the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students. A professor dismissed the students causing them to rush out of the room. As Katherine walked, she heard someone calling her name, so she turned around and saw the twins.
"Hey, Katherine!" George said, smiling.
"Oh, hey guys. That was crazy back there, wasn't it?" Katherine nervously laughed.
