Holding and Anxiety

Jason's POV

   After working together to find the keys to the chains laced with Wolfsbane, Darren goes to Benny's feet and begins unclasping him while I stand at the head of the bed, my shaky hand resting on his cheek, while my eyes dart around his body, searching to make sure he's okay, though soon my eyes get too blurry to see anything.

    'He's safe.' Ryan's words of both relief and prayer echo through my head as I softly stroke Benny's cheek, leaning towards him slowly to press my lips against his forehead, my chest contracting with barely held in sobs.

   I swallow the urge and instead slide my arms beneath my Mates frail body, his limbs and head hanging limply as I pull Benny up into my arms, holding him close to my chest as sparks of relief burst sending shivers and tingles through my body. Darren checks around for anything of Nick, but after a shake of my head telling him nothings here, he leads the way downstairs.

   Distantly I can hear the fight wrapping up, the sounds of scared injured Rogues reaching my ears as they race past us yards away.

    Keeping Benny to my chest, I walk through the cluster of trees before making a wide arch back towards our side of the lines, and when I enrage from the trees, my eyes still focused on Benny in my grasp, my hold on him right, scared that the moment I leave him alone, someone else is going to try to hurt him again.

    "Fuck you!" I hear to the right of me, and when I look into the clearing near some boulders, I see Shannon on the group, bloodied and cut as she struggles against two wolves that hold her down.

   I narrow my eyes and look at her, my lip curling strongly as my chest constricted in my chest making it hard to breathe, and I turn away from the woman that raised me, with my Mate in hand, and walk towards the cluster of Warriors that came to help me get my Mate back.

    Not my problem anymore.

    Both her and Nathan will be taken by Warriors and put on trail for their crimes. And if either of them try to escape, I'll track them down myself.

    Tarik turns towards me as I approach them, and I watch as their faces all melt from the stone cold worry into i stand relief when they see the small wolf snuggled safely in my arms.

    "Thank you." I tell him, my throat thick as I nod towards the Warrior, no other words seeming enough for what these people have done for me today. He smiles before reaching out a warm hand that clasps on my shoulder.

     "Wolves are about sticking together as a family, even if there's no relation." He tells me and I nod, going to turn away, before he adds on. "Oh, and don't do something stupid like pulling away from him because you think it'll protect him. I was on the jury when you were on court that day Jason, if he's safe with anyone, it's you." He tells me before smiling and waking away with a wink.

    I turn to say something, though I'm not sure what, when I see Luis leaning against a tree away from everyone else, his silhouette almost dark, even to my eyes.

   I walk towards him, being careful not to hit or scratch Nick on anything, and find him sitting on the ground, back towards the trunk of the tree as he stares out at the seemingly endless sea of forest.  I can smell the embers from his fingers, the air around him smelling warm and raw. Powerful. And yet when I glance at him, I see him staring down at his hands as if they're poison, the look of disgust in them bringing back the guilt from before, the weigh of Benny in my arms only helping ease so much.

   I sigh before lowering myself to the ground, setting Nick softly in my lap, his head resting on my shoulder.

    "I-" I go to start, but Luis turns towards me with glassy eyes and a firm smile.

     "It was worth it. If you apologize, I'll have Eliza come beat your ass after mine." He tells me tiredly, and I smile and nod, knowing that anything else I say would take away from what he did for us today. "Let's get your Mate to a Doctor." He tells me, and the two of us get up before joining the rest of the wolves as we head back towards Sara's house, a few wolves staying in human form to walk with Luis and I, Benny passed out peacefully.

    The walk back towards Sara's house felt like a blur, my eyes staying in Benny's resting face, the scratches and marks nothing, not while his heart still beats. Still belongs to me.

   When we arrive at the house, Sara and her husband Rob stand outside, tears streaming down the woman's cheeks as he holds her steady. I carry Benny towards the two of them, Tessa coming down form the porch, her arms wrapped securely around herself, her eyes wet and red.

    "Oh, God!" Sara wails when she sees Benny's limp body in my arms, but I shake my head, and shush her.

    "Just unconscious. He just needs a hospital to treat the wolfsbane." I tell her quietly, and her shaking head reaches out to stroke his cheek soothingly before she nods in understanding.

    "You and the kids take Darrens car. We'll follow." Rob tells us, and I nod, turning to follow the siblings to Darrens car, sliding into the backseat. I lay Benny's out along the back, placing his head on my lap, and my hand on his. Tessa and Darren hop in and start the car, pulling out into the street filled with nosey and concerned wolves, before making a right towards the pack hospital.

    "It's going to be okay, runt. I promise."

OKAY so I know you guys have been wondering where I've been so let me update you. I went to NY, met my Daddy's family, we bought a house, and now we're in the middle of renovating. I've been spinning on my head for months and every time I think I have time to relax and write its more things to do. So I'm hoping that changing what time I write to the morning, before I start really moving, will help me be with solidifying a solid writing schedule. i'm hoping that soon i can post a few chapters every other day. i'll update when i can, and i love you all!
