Breakfast and Annoyances

Jason's POV

     After I get Ryan and I to calm down from Nicks unexpected kiss, I turn around and shake my head, going to the dresser to grab two pills from the container and putting them in my pocket.

     I doubt anyone wants to see two wolves going at it in the middle of the forrest.

    Once I have the pills, I grab myself a light jacket before I head out of my room, knowing that if I'm still in there when Nick gets out of the shower, we're only going to be late.

    When I exit our room, I find Clarissa and Luis sitting in the living room, chilling on the couch and talking.

    "Good morning." I call out and Clary waves at me.

     "Is Nicky coming to the trail?"

      I chuckle and nod my head. "He's not excited about it though." I tell her and Luis looks at me in a way that makes me think that this day won't be as good and fun as it's supposed to. "What?"

      "You remember that we have a part to play right? He won't be able to be paired with you on this hike. He has to go with Nathan and you with me." He says and I want to snarl at him, but we both know he's right.

    "Why can't winter break come already? I'm already tired of this shit." I tell them and all they can do is shrug.

     "Unless the two of you are ready to expose yourselves to the school, city and parents, this is the only way the two of you can be together in public. Something you told me when you recruited me for this." Luis tells me, and I no longer feel excited for this fucking trip.

      'I don't like the idea of Nathan being all over him and in his face.' Ryan says and I snort in disbelief as I go to side down in agitation.

     'That's funny, since this whole plan was your idea.' I accuse and he doesn't say anything after that.

      After a few more minutes of waiting and we all continue our conversation, though off of the topic of Nick and I, the door behind me finally opens. I turn around and find Nick coking out with a long sleeve shirt, jeans and some boots and I shake my head.

     "Where's your coat?" I ask him and his mouth forms an 'o' before he turns around and reappears with his coat in hand.

     He walks over towards the sitting area and his cheeks are red as he barely looks at Clary and Luis. "Hi." He says as if embarrassed and I find it nothing less than adorable.

    "Hey Nicky. You guys want to eat before we go?" Clary asks and I  chuckle, knowing that her fat ass is always ready to eat something no matter what. We all agree, however, and as Luis and Clary go to grab the rest of our stuff, I help Nick into his jacket and sigh.

     "You have to hike with Nathan today."

    Nick looks up with panicked eyes and his hands hesitate to reach out towards me. "Did I do something wrong? I'm sorry." He tells me with a whimper and I hold his cheek, knowing it will settle the two of us down as I slightly pull him forward.

     "You're perfect, runt. But we still have to hide who we are to each other. So this means you have to be with Nathan today. And I have to be with Luis." I tell him and he sighs.

    His other hand comes up to press itself against my hand, and I feel bad as I look at him, wishing I could give him the world without putting the life we have in jeopardy. It's selfish. It's wrong, but all I can think about is having Nick as mine, and only mine, despite the consequences. But that's not what I need to do.

     "Okay." He tells me and I give him a kiss on the forehead just as Clary and Luis come back.

     The four of us make our way down stairs to the eating hall, and make our plates down the line, ignoring the people in the room as we talk to each other and laugh.

     We find ourselves a seat at the end of one of the tables and I carefully slide over one of the pills to Nick and he takes it with a sad smile with a sip of his apple juice. After we've both taken one, I turn my head to engage back into the conversation. Ana don't a few minutes later, I feel Nicks legs tangle with mine softly and when I look up at him out of the corner of my eye, he's doing his happy dance, almost making me laugh.

    But of course, my smile fades when I see Nathan coming this way. His nod to me is half assed before all of his attention is on Nick.

    I pretend to be paying attention to the friends beside me, answering a question every now in then, until I hear the question I've been waiting for. "Hey would you like to be my partner on the hike? My family does it all the time so I won't let you get hurt, don't worry."

    My eye twitches and I feel myself about to say something, when I feel a burning sensation on my thigh. I look down and see Luis' glowing finger there.

    "Come on, babe. Let's go get ready." He says to me, and while I'm tempted to roll my eyes, I stop myself from doing so, knowing that this is needed. That's the only thing keeping me going, all of this is needed and necessary so that one day, me and Nicky can be fine and not have to worry about anything but being happy together.

    When I get up from the table and take Luis' outstretched hand that doesn't fit like Nick's tiny one, I know that that day is not today.
