Jason's POV

I watch as we all settle down around the table, and I try to ignore the strange feeling that I'm getting.

Not because I don't trust my instincts.

No. I know to never to do that again.

But because, in this households if you react based off of instincts, there might be a fight. More than likely physical.

So I watch as Nick sits at his usual seat between Clary and Mom, while I sit next to dad, and we begin eating the chicken that mom made for us.

"So guys, how was your trip? We barely saw any of you yesterday." Dad is the first one to break the silence, and of course, Clary is the next one, obviously going to try her best to keep the eyes off of me and Nick after the weirdness of what happens before we left for the trip.

Apparently her and the other two of our friends, left here and went to try and track Nathan down even without the spell.

And of course, just like I said, it was too late for them to do anything by the time they got back there, especially with so many humans in the hallway taking up the space.

Too many scents, when you try to focus your nose, can make you dizzy and give you a headache.

"We had fun. It was kind of boring some times when we weren't doing anything outside, but all the trips and everything was cool. Skiing was scary though." She says as she bites into her chicken and dad chuckles.

"It's not like you to be scared of much Clair." He says and she nods her head as of surprised herself, and maybe she had been, but I had been so focused on Nick and making sure that he was okay, and then mourning the loss of him, that I realize, Clary and I didn't have that much time together.

The thought makes me frown and also makes me realize, that in terms of siblings, I have a favorite.

Which doesn't sit right with me.

"I know! But the hills were steep, and there were a lot of careless dumb humans around so the real problem was trying to stay out of their way." She shares and I can't help but smirk at that.

There's nothing more annoying than being the only Super in a group full of humans that don't understand when to chill out.

"And why about you, Jace?" I look up and find Mom staring at me, her plate only halfway touched and I frown as I shrug a little bit.

"It was alright. Spent a lot of time with these runts, and some time with Luis." I answer her.

"Stop calling them runts Jace, they don't like it." Dad tells me and I raise my brow, and almost want to laugh in his face and tell him just how much his little precious baby boy loved the nick name runt. I shake my head to myself, aware that I'm starting to get possessive over Nick, and even over Clary.

It's always been my job to protect the two of them, and right now, I don't like the way our parents are being.

"Both of them don't mind the nickname. Well, Clary might but she's a big girl." I comment and she sticks her tongue out at me and rolls her eyes and I have no doubt that if our patents weren't around her finger would definitely be shoved in my face right now.

"Well. Still it's not a name you should get them used to being heard." She says, glaring at me, and I don't say anything else, but I can feel both Clary and Nicky looking at me in question. Because this was weird.

My parents have always made it clear that I was their least favorite child for a multitude of reasons, but we've always still had a good relationship. But it feels like as time goes on and things begin to shift, they are becoming more and more distrustful and rude.

"You said you hung out with your friend? Where was Nick?" She asks me, looking down at her plate and picking up a pice of toast.

The question grates my nerves especially with the thoughts of what happened today. I feel Ryan's hair stand up on end at the question and it takes a large effort on my part to swallow the growl that he pushes harshly from my throat.

I smile softly and nod to myself before I open my mouth to answer. "He was with his friend. Nathan. If I wasn't there, he was."

"Oh! Well that's wonderful then. As long as someone is there to make sure rhat Nick is doing okay."

"Maybe you should ask him instead of me. He could probably give you a better answer." I offer, my eyes narrowed at the fact that the two of them are so upset over every little thing that I do, but are so gracious towards this random human...

"So, Nick. Is there anything special you want to tell me about Nathan?" Mom asks and it all clicks together.

     Oh Goddess, no.

They think Nick and Nathan are.... Mates.
