Dirty Little Secret

Talking and Trips

Nicolas' POV

     The car ride the next morning is awkward as the three of us make our way to school, and I chose to pretend to be sleep so I don't have to be apart of the conversation before me.

     "Clarissa." Jason starts and I think both me and Cody cringe from the barley held back annoyance in his voice, and I keep my eyes closed not wanting either of them to make eyes contact with me while they have a conversation like this.

      "Look, Jace, I'm sorry I was really trying to help." She says but before she can continue, Jason cuts her off.

      "I need you to talk to your friend about sound proofing our room and putting in that door." He says curtly and I can feel my cheeks glow.

    When I had brought it up yesterday, I felt needy and annoying, knowing that I was asking a lot from Jace who had just only decided to accept our Mating. I was scared of pushing him too far, but I also knew that I needed a way to be around him more without being suspicious.

     But I didn't think he would actually talk to Clary about it and I can feel myself wanting to do my happy dance but I stay still, the conversation still too awkward for me to let them know that I'm not really sleeping.

     "Oh! Yes I can talk to her today. If you want, she can come over after school." Clary says and I guess Jason nods because they don't say anything else as we make our way to school. When the car parks, Clair says a quick goodbye before she's out of her door.

      "You can stop pretending like you're sleep now." Jason says.

       I can't help my giggle that escapes before I open my eyes and find him looking at me in amusement through his rear view mirror. "It was so awkward." I tell him and he chuckles before nodding his head with a crooked smile that makes Benny roll over on to his back and bare his throat in turn.

       "It was. Be good in school okay? Maybe we can watch a movie tonight?" He asks me and I finally get to do my happy dance making him laugh.

      "Okay!" I tell him and give him a wave before I make my way out of the car and towards the school, finally feeling happy after what feels like so long of just going through the motions. I feel my cheeks heat up as I think about it a little bit and it distracts me from noticing the hands that comes around my shoulders.

     "You look a lot better." Nathan tells me and I blush, still not used to all the nice things he tells me. I bite my lip and give him a smile.

     "I feel better," I tell him and he smiles.

      But I feel kind of guilty. Because even though Jace is my Mate, I know secretly deep down, I like Nathan a little bit, and I know that he treats me good, like a regular person and it's nice to go out to the movies and to the diner.

     I have to wait a long time to do that with Jason.

    ' He is Mate even if we don't get to show him off.' Benny tries to tell me but I can't help but argue against him.

    'I know, but Omegas are territorial and I can't do that with Jason without everything falling apart. It's not fair.' I tell him, tears pricking my eyes but before he can respond, Nathan speaks back up as he walks me slowly to my locker.

    "So the ski trip is coming up. Usually sophomores can't come, but if they come with a Junior or Senior and have a note from their parents.... well then thats different." He tells me and I frown.

     "What's the ski trip?"

     "I keep forgetting that you're new here. It feels like we've known each other for years." He starts as we get to my locker finally and I unlock it before taking off my book bag and finding my stuff. "Juniors and Seniors go on a ski trip for a week once a year while the Sophomores and Freshmen get a week off of school. It happens in two weeks so you better get your permission slip from the front office soon if you want to go."

     "I'll have to talk to my family about it."
I tell him and he nods as if he understands before he leans on the locker beside me making an enclosed space.

     "So, have you thought about what I told you?" He asks me and my face flares up into a large blush as I put my half empty book bag into my locker and turn towards him.

      "A little bit." I admit, not wanting to say just how little I truly thought of it and he grins.

     "So?"

     "I'm still waiting on my Mate." I start, and I'm not lying in a way, because I am. "But until then, we can go out more." I tell him, unable to say anything beyond that but my words must be what he was looking for because he gives me a big grin.

     "I can work with that." He tells me before he begins walking me towards class and I feel eyes on my back. And when I turn around, I find Jason leaning against a wall, his head leaning against it as well as he looks at me, his eyes already on mine before someone gets in our way. And when they move, Jason is gone.
