Jason's POV
I walk past the lanky kid and his arms around my Ma- brother and walk towards the back of the school.
I know for a fact rhat if I stay in this building and watch rhat kid with his hands all over Nicolas, the outcome won't be pretty. I frown at the thoughts, knowing that the tone is different that before and the thought alone is making me want to hit and break something.
'It's normal, Jace.' Ryan tries to tell me as I push the door open towards the bus lot and walk passed all the people around me. 'We don't want anyone touching him.'
'I shouldn't care.' I snarl at him and he sighs but doesn't say anything as I jump over the fence that lines the soccer field, the area here calm and quiet as I make my way across the perfect grass towards the bleachers on the far side of the field.
I duck under the stands, avoiding the metal bars before I walk towards the middle where I see Luis smoking a cigarette as he leans against the wall, smoke falling from his lips in a puff as he exhale into the air.
The further away I get from the school, and people and the noises, the more relaxed I start to feel as I walk away.
Hearing me coming, Luis looks up, only to smile around the butt of the cigarette as he pulls it to his lips and takes a drag, tilting his head to the side as I approach him. "Long time." He tells me as I lean against the fence across from him and I shrug as I look around the empty oversized yard around us.
"Busy." I tell him and he chuckles to himself.
"Straight and narrow. Congrats." He offers, lifting the burning stick in his hand in salute and I nod back before turning to loon back at the school. I can't help but look for Nick even if I know I wouldn't be able to see him if he was outside form here.
"You could say that." I answer with a shrug before I shrug and he watched with keen eyes as always, his rings and earring gleaming in the morning sun. "Training?"
I watch and Luis holds on of his fingers up, making a pretty flame dance between his fingers before throwing it up and catch it, crushing it into smoke. "Still a prodigy." He comments and it makes me laugh for once, the first smile to shape my lips since the horrible night last night.
"Still hate it." I say, not as a question but a statement and Luis doesn't answer as we just stand there.
"You have a secret." He observed after a few minutes and I don't turn towards him, not having made up my mind on if I should tell him or not. "Illegal?"
"Morally." I admit and he hums his understanding.
"This the kind of thing I need to take to the grave huh?" He asks, pausing to take a drag of a cigarette. "Should you?" He challenges and I sigh.
"I should. I can't. I have to tell someone that isn't Ryan." I tell him and my wolf growls low at me but I ignore him, though he doesn't say anything.
"Hit me."
"Nicolas is my Mate." I breath, the words almost inaudible and he doesn't seem phased at all, just pulls in another puff of his smoke before blowing it out, letting the wind carry it away before he tilts his head and closes on of his eyes to gaze at me.
"I could see that." He says and I flinch away in shock. "You have always been protective. And you two have always been closer than other siblings. Are you scared?" He asks me, raising a brow.
"Nothing to be scared of. I'm disgusted." I explain honestly and he nods, dropping the butt into the dewey grass, stomping it out into the ground.
"By him?"
I scoff at the question, crossing my arms and turning my head away from him. "Of course not, Luis. The fucking situation, all up it is fucked up. It's not his fault we are what we are." I tell him with a glare that's turned towards him.
"I agree. And what you are is Mates. Best you start remembering that now. And you say you know it's not his fault, but does he?" He asks me and I turn towards him to open my mouth and say of course he does when he cuts me off. "Nick is a sweet kid, but he also has a shit wolf and bad anxiety. With the mix of those and with the avoidance you give bad situations, I don't think he does."
I clench my jaw and stay quiet, but of course Ryan doesn't take the hint. 'Bastard. Hurting our Mate already.' He growls and I push his mental voice aside, not needing a lecture form him too.
Even if he's right.
"You know if you share this secret I'll have you kill you right?" I ask him, my brown eyes meeting his black ones and he leans off of the metal bars holding up the bleachers.
"As you should. And if I hear mine on your lips," He starts, flicking his thumb until a flame appears and hovers over his skin. "I will burn you alive."
"I would expect nothing less." I tell him and he gives me a grin before he begins walking away in the wrong direction of school towards Goddess knows where.
"Talk to him." He calls back without turning around and I lean back against the gate, my head falling back to look at the clouds.
"Yeah."
~~~~~~~~
the type of friends where you barely talk to each other but when you do it's like you never left- those are my favorites. Luis is a character that I created specifically for a reader of mine. if any of you would like a "mate" lmk!Thoughts?
