Jason's POV
I test the bond around my wrist, pulling at them slightly, and curse inwardly when I realize that they're wolf chains. Using my nose I confirm that the people who kidnapped Nick and I, are wolves, making me frown in confusion.Nathan. It has to be.
But why would he work with wolves? Why would wolves work with a human?
The questions pile up inside my brain, nine of them revealing answers, making me more frustrated than I already was.
'Why did you get in the fucking van?' Ryan yells at me and I take it, knowing that I should have gotten away, but i refuse.
'I am never leaving him by himself to deal with a problem. I told him I would be here and I meant that." I growl at him, and he is immediately silent and so is the rest of the ride, the silence heavy and thick, Nick shaking against my side, the smell of the salt in his tears in the air, making the red lining my eyes double. They made him cry.
'It's not hard to make him cry.'
'Gives me more people to kill.' I answer quickly, and there's a dark chuckle that follows that makes my lips twitch before they settle into a firm line.
I follow the turns and stops of the ride, thinking about the map of the city, and to my surprise, I find that we're in my packs lands. My family lives on the outskirts, near the border, where you find some human families that like the neighborhood and a lot of Hybrids. But if I'm correct, we're near the heart of the pack, a city within itself, and my nerves grow more as fear settles in. Why would our own pack members kidnap us?
'What if Nathan came here?' Ryan asks me and I wish I never heard the question.
I don't even want to think about what would happen if my pack found out about me and Nick. And if they do, the only thing I can do is try to hold the other wolves back as Nick escapes. Just as I steel my resolve to do just that, the van stops, the door being pulled open before our bodies are grabbed by our kidnappers.
Thankfully other than his soft sniffles no sounds of pain or discomfort come from Nick, though I am pushed around roughly, following the sound of the steps in front of me.
Tripping over soemthing on the ground, I'm pushed into a folding chair, the cool back against mine, as I hear Nick get settled into a chair next to me.
For a couple minutes there's no sound until suddenly the hood blocking my view is pulled from my eyes and they immediately adjust, finding a family of wolves in front of me, a father, mother, daughter and son. The kids both look familiar and I realize that they are from school.
Maybe that's how Nathan got wolves to work with him.
I watch in confusion however when all of them turn towards Nick, my little brothers face covered in tears, his face red and blotchy, and my simmering anger blows up as I turn to stare at the family, only to see similar tears streaming down their face.
"It's really him." The woman says and I watch in disgust as she walks towards Nick, going to put her hand on his face, and he recoils in fear just as my voice rings out in pure rage.
"Get your fucking hands off my damn Mate!" I yell, and the world could hear the sound of my panting as my arms flex, wishing we could break the binds in my wrists. The boy turns towards me with delight in his eyes.
"So then you know?" He asks, mischief flirting across his features, but his eyes still watchful and calculating, watching my hands as he takes a step towards me.
"Know what? That you kidnapped me and my Mate and want to put your filthy fucking hands on him?" I sneer and he shakes him head, anger finding his features, his dark ones matching mine in a way, his dirty blonde hair, green eyes and tan skin the only difference.
"You know that he's not your brother, since you know your Mates." He urges and my body stills, heart picking up the pace as the words I've been waiting to hear fall from his lips.
"What?" I ask, but my voice sounds hollow to my own ears. "He's not my...." I turn towards Nick who's already facing me, his hazel eyes alight with hope, snot running down his face returning my anger to my body. Before I can call the boy out for fucking with my head, he steps back, empathy framing his features, the look mirrored by the family behind him.
"You thought you were Mated to your brother?" He asks me and I growl, loud and low, in irritation.
"Who the fuck are you, and why did you kidnap us?" I ask point blank and I'm met with nervous states which confuses me since I'. the one at their mercy, the though making my skin itch.
"Sixteen years ago, our house was on fire." To my surprise it's not the boy who answers but the women who is clearly his mother, her blue green eyes striking against her dirty blonde hair. "We called the Pack House for help and they sent two people. Shannon and Logan." I recoil as recognize my parents names. "They had just suffered from a miscarriage, their third child, gone, but they needed a distraction so they came. Both of them went in, but only Logan came to tell us that our youngest son was trapped in the fire and they couldn't get them out. They told us that he died in the fire. I always thought it was weird I didn't see Shannon that night and that they moved right after. That they quit their jobs and moved to the outskirts of the parklands. For almost eighteen years we thought our son was dead. Until Jamie came home from the trip smelling like Mangos and Sunflowers. Like Robin."
I turn back towards Nick, slowly this time, and when I do, I don't see him as my little brother, but I study his features, and I see that he looks just like the boy. Slime, smaller, but same eyes as the mom, same nose as the dad, the same hair, the same lips, mouth, all of it.
He's not my brother.
He's just my Mate.
And my parents aren't the people I thought they were.
