Angie didn't show any sign of surprise when she heard Daniel's voice. "Not shocked to see me, I assume". He said. He moved closer to her and extended his hand, "need a hand?" He asked with his devilish smirk. "I'm very comfortable with my position", Angie sneered, "but thanks". "Suit yourself". He shrugged.Angie stood up and dusted the sand crumbs off her body. "What am I doing here?" She asked, "how am I here?" "You're not exactly here", he told her, "your body is somewhere in the nurse's office taking a nap".
"Why did you bring me here?"
"I did no such thing. I had my doubts about you coming but you proved me wrong".
"Can you speak like a normal person? And how are you everywhere? You're supposed to he dead".
"Supposed is a strong word. I just happen to be nonexistent in the human world".
"Go pick on other ghosts. Leave my friends and I alone".
"You and your buddies are standing in my way. You collected powers you have no use of and I need it out of the picture for it to work".
"For what to work? And what do you mean 'out of the picture'?"
"It means your magic can only die when you do. It was asleep until you woke it".
"That's what the spell means right? At midnight, the chant thrice, to devour, darkness rise". Daniel applauded her, "bravo! You learned literature. It was a spell used to bind the magic", he said, "I warned you not to wallow deeper and yet...here we are". Angie was confused. She looked around to see if the others where there but they weren't. "Looking for your friends?" It was like he was reading her mind, "you won't find them. You're different. You're a legacy".
With those words, a shadow appeared and wrapped her. She wasn't given a chance to speak as she woke up in her body. She jerked up. "Angie!" Jo attacked her with a hug. "What happened?" Mitchell asked worried. She looked oddly pale. Angie shook the thought off. It was probably her mind. "You stopped breathing for a while", Lin whispered, "we figured it was the magic". "Yeah", she said weakly, "I have something important to tell you guys".
They all checked around. "Coast is clear". Jo said locking the door. "Tell us everything". Mitchell said. "I was having a headache and I went to the bathroom", she started. She told them all about how she saw the blood to the black hole to the forest and finally to the Daniel part. "He said he wants something and our magic is stopping him", she explained, "he wants to get us out of the picture by killing us and he said I was different from you guys. A legacy".
The three girls took time to process what Angie had said. "That was the second time you were seeing the black hole?" Mitchell asked. "Yeah. Why?" Angie asked. "Have you ever tried walking into it?" Jo asked. "You three are cray cray!" Lin shouted. "Pipe down!" Jo hushed, "do you want everyone to hear about us?"
"I'm sorry for yelling but this is insane. Angie is not going to walk into a black hole". Lin retorted.
"You heard her. She woke up the two times she was dragged in. It's worth a shot".
"It's a death sentence and I am not going to be charged with murder. You all will get juvie but I would get jail". "You guys!" Mitchell called out, "let Angie decide what she wants to do please". "Thanks Mitchell". Angie gave her a weak smile, "I wanna try. I'll be fine, Lin". "You sure? No pressure". Mitchell was worried. "I'm good. I just need something to make me fall asleep". "Hypnosis was what I learned in my free time". Jo said proudly.
Jo snapped her fingers and candles arranged around Angie's body. "I need it to regulate how deep she's entering", Jo explained, "if for any reason she's in trouble I could easily sever the connection and she'll be back". "Really?" Lin asked. "Yes, Lin. I would never want any of us to get hurt intentionally". Jo said in a soft voice. Mitchell blew on the candles and they lit up. "You are good". Angie said before lying down.
Angie closed her eyes. Jo closed her eyes too and tried to reach into Angie's subconscious. Angie could feel herself falling into darkness and she let it overwhelm her. "She's in". Jo said opening one eye. Mitchell released a breath she didn't know she was holding. Lin just rolled her eyes and held Angie's right hand in hers.
Angie woke up to the gloomy field like before. "Still gray". She said to the grass. She put her hands in her pocket and started walking around. It wasn't as terrifying as before and that was because she was choosing to be there. She leaned against a tree. She could have been playing candy crush on her phone right now but no phones allowed in the magical realm.
She sat on the grass and decided to trace the drawing on the floor. She drew the circle and the lines inside. Nothing happened as she hoped for. She wrote out the writing that she saw on the mirror. She looked at the two works. "Maybe each symbol would fit into the holes". She muttered. She drew them into the circle diagram. "Oh no" she said as she stood up.
The image enlarged and it stood from the ground. Angie started getting scared. "What's wrong?" Mitchell asked as soon as Angie's body vibrated. "Her heart just spiked up", Jo said, "I think something scared her or she's in shock". "Is she fine though?" "Yeah".
Angie relaxed a bit when the image just stood there. It started spinning and soon enough it turned to the black hole she was waiting for. She took in deep breaths before she walked inside. She couldn't feel solid ground and that scared her. She opened her eyes to see herself falling. "Ah!" She screamed as she was getting closer to the rock spikes below her. "Never been through a portal before?" She frowned. She didn't need his teasing when she was on the verge of death.
Suddenly, the rock spikes vanished and she crashed into the normal floor. "You don't need a hand, do you?" Daniel teased further. "Thanks for the smooth landing", she spat, "what would I do without you?" "No need to compliment me". He smiled. He was wearing a suit with a top hat and he had a cane. "Talk about cliché". She rolled her eyes. "I wanted to dress up for your arrival".
"Where is this place?"
"This is the world of shadows. Everything that could possibly be lurking in the shadows is here".
"Really?" Angie fanned the air and it showed a classroom in school. She waved her hand and it closed. She did it again and this time it showed City Hall. "This is how you always know where we are". She told him. "Indeed. I know all your secrets".
"I don't have secrets and this is some crazy creepy shit. Stalker much".
"Call it whatever you want. I'm the king of this world". Angie focused her nose and she could smell burnt flesh. "People get tortured everyday. Demons to be specific". He answered like he had been reading her mind. Angie ignored the talk about demons and asked, "what did you mean by I'm a legacy? And why am I the only one who can do this?" "Curious as always", he smirked, "unfortunately, I cannot answer you today. It's snack time".
Angie didn't have a chance to ask what he meant by that. He was gone. She heard growls getting closer to her. She remembered what he said about everything that could be lurking in the shadows. Monsters. Why not? She thought as she ran. "This has gone way too far", Mitchell was alarmed by Angie's shaking body, "break the connection now".
Jo nodded and squeezed her eyes. Angie appeared in a tunnel but the growls were still behind her. She could see a light at the end and ran towards it. She felt a scratch on her shoulder from a claw trying to grab it. Angie pushed herself and jumped into the light.
