Mitchell shook her head, "it can't be", she muttered, "my mom would never try to kill me". "I know", Angie agreed, "it couldn't have been her". They all gave her confused looks. "I know what I saw", she continued, "but something didn't make sense. Tatiana came to Bresten, yes, but she wasn't among the five who played". "Are you saying it could be your mom?" Jo was tensed. "I'm saying it could be any of our moms".Lin levitated the body and said, "we'll go dispose of the body". "I'll come with". Jo followed her out. Angie and Mitchell stayed quiet for a moment. "So...you've been attacked twice today", Angie chuckled dryly, "how are you feeling?" "Like I've been attacked twice". She replied. They both laughed.
"I remember what you said", Mitchell suddenly said, "what you all said". "What did Lin and Jo say?"
"Lin met me in my old school. I was living the life I wanted. Gay and free. Jo was in the one where I had a perfect family. My mom had a good job and we actually had a father who cared".
"Intense. I bet Jo spent most of the time apologizing. She's really sorry". Mitchell nodded in understanding. They let silence come between them again. "I was serious when I said we could work things out", Angie couldn't make eye contact, "I just need time. I have never thought of people...like anyone in that way ever". "I get it", Mitchell smiled, "take all the time you need. I'll be here".
"Did they kiss yet?" They both heard the whisper. "Shh! You're going to make them stop". Lin whisper yelled. "You can come in now", Angie called out, "and next time, snoop quietly". Mitchell and Angie shared a laugh as Lin and Jo were red in the face. "I'm so happy for you guys!" Lin squealed. "If any of you make us third wheel, we're cutting you off". Jo pretended to be serious.
They stayed there all night. Mitchell eventually feel asleep from tiredness. "Now that she's asleep", Jo started, "we need to talk about our mothers". "Clearly", Lin supported, "we still don't know how they are related to all of these".
"And if they could frame Tatiana, they know about our abilities". Angie said seriously.
"I tried sneaking around and all I found was the same photo but she burned Angie's mom's from it". It was Jo that spoke.
"Odd. I also tried but the house was clean. The shed in the back was locked which I thought was weird. The circle markings and the strange writings were all around". Lin quipped.
"I was only able to find out that Daniel was my uncle. He changed his surname and he died without my Mom ever mentioning him. This has to link up at one end". Angie huffed. She was trying to think about how it was all connected. "The only people that we haven't checked are Celine and Irene". Angie beamed at the thought. "What if we ask Maggie? She's always in everyone's business". Jo shrugged. "Maggie forced Beck to give Chris a wedgie when he asked her for her name", Lin reminded them, "she's a sicko. She would never help".
"Maybe we don't need her help". Angie was stroking her chin when she said it. "Explain..." They beckoned on her. "Just like how I can travel out of my body to different places", she was hoping that they were following, "maybe I could sneak around the house. She wouldn't see or hear me". "Are you crazy?!" Jo screamed so loud that Mitchell stirred, "scratch that...you're crazy!" She had lowered her voice.
"I have to agree with Angie on this one". Lin said shocking both of them. "We need answers and fast", she told them, "this is the early hours of Saturday and we got this on Wednesday. We've lost our friends and one went through surgery. Am I the only one that is freaking out about how dangerous this is?!"
"So, it's agreed. I go in and if there is any problem..." "You leave immediately". Jo completed. Angie nodded before closing her eyes. She pictured the home that she had play dates in. A place she referred to as home. She had been so cooped up in the drama that she hadn't visited the family. Felicity's death felt like it happened months ago meanwhile it had only been a few days.
Angie moved with the shadows that only she could see. She appeared in the sitting room of the house. She smiled at the familiar feeling. Angie took one photo after the other. "I wish you were here", she told Felicity, "you would have helped me or better still protected me from all the drama". She blinked away the tears that were forming in her eyes. "I miss you". Was the last thing she said before going back to the mission.
Angie walked to their attic. She moved some boxes over. "Again" she said to that same photo. This was just like Sophia's own. Her mom's face had been burned out. "Maybe they all hate her because she wanted out". Angie was puzzled. Something in her guts told her that it wasn't true. Angie was going through the boxes by the wall when she heard a sound.
It was a knock!
She knocked back and whoever was one the other side knocked too. Angie clicked her fingers and aimed at the plank. The wood floated out of its place. "Weird" There was nothing there. Angie could have sworn that she heard a knock. She felt a hand on her mouth and the last time that happened a monster wanted to have her head.
"I'm not gonna hurt you", the being said in a singsong feminine voice, "you can't scream or else, they will die". Angie nodded. The hand slowly came off and she turned. The woman was in all white including her hair and she was floating. "Are you dead?" She asked carefully. "Not exactly", she answered, "there was a spell that the former group wanted to perform against the code. They summoned me".
"What spell?"
"That is not in my place to disclose. I have limited time".
"Why were you locked here? Does Irene know?"
"Unfortunately yes...she was being threatened. I've been freed and now, your magic is safe".
"What do you mean 'safe'? Angie was beyond confused. "With my powers, they could use magic beyond their limit", she explained, "but now, they can't make it work". "That does sound like good news", Angie sighed, "who are you?" She smiled softly and said, "you will find out in due time". She blinked like a light bulb and she was gone. Angie was in a trance like state during the conversation. She could feel that her magic was stronger.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet with me". A clank of heels followed the voice, "to meet us". "You?!" She could tell that it was Tatiana. "Please", this was Irene now, "we didn't come here to fight". "Oh no! I did not sign up for this", Tatiana complained, "it's either she leaves or I do". "Relax, Tina", a voice that Angie couldn't place her finger on said, "we're here because of your daughter after all".
Angie opened the door so that she could hear them clearly. She might have been a shadow but she could still make noise if she moved any objects. "Which one of you did it?" Tatiana asked. "I assure you that it wasn't anyone in this room". This was from Celine. "You sure about her?" Tatiana pointed at Kimberly. "Our rivalry ended in high school", Kimberly snorted, "I wasn't even in control of myself then". "Back to why we were here", Celine interrupted them, "we need to stop her". "Trust me, Celine", Irene was shivering, "she's a whole lot scarier than before".
Angie accidentally dropped the latch door she was holding. Irene gasped and ran up the ladder. Angie stood there and Irene walked through her. "No!" She screamed as she saw the wall. "What happened?" Tatiana asked worriedly. "She's gone!"
