Sidharth was home early as had been directed in the morning in-person by mother and later on, reminded multiple times by his sister and threatened by his fiancé throughout the day. There was a lot of movement in the house but he could not find the woman his eyes were wandering here and there for.
"Umm...Mom? Ssup? Ye itna kya sab ho raha hai?" He asked, slightly irritated at not being warmly welcomed like everyday.
"Hi beta...sorry woh Sana ke vrat kholne ka time hoga na...toh hum aaj tandoori roti ghar pe bana rahe hain...trial hai, dekho kaise hota hai..Pani laun?" Ma asked her son who seemed amused at the idea.
"Main le leta hun kitchen se...dekh ke bhi aata hun aap aur Preeti kya cooking spree pe lage hue ho!" He said, moving towards the kitchen. It would not be wrong to say that together Preeti Di, Ma ably assisted by Ritu and ...motivated by Sana's mother on a video call (as could be seen from the iPad placed on the kitchen slab) had cooked at least half a dozen meals in quantities that would comfortably feed the entire building.
"Hello Mummyji...and guys, tham jao ab...bhai, poori society kha legi itne me...ye sab ho kya raha hai?!" He exclaimed at the food. Sana's mother's face lit at the sight of her son-in-law talking about kitchen and cooking.
"Haye...maine bhi wohi kaha beta...ye apni mummy ko bolo tum..." Sana's mom complained immediately.
"Koi kuch nahi sun raha aunty...! Meri Sana ka pehla karwachauth hai...hum sab banayenge..." Preeti Di concluded, earning an affirmation from her mother.
"Haan, abhi aap batao ki aap last me kya bole? Kya daal dein daal makhni me?..." Ma asked again, making Sidharth roll his eyes.
"Oh hello! Hindi serial ki mahilaon...woh chidia jaise khati hai...kam banao thoda..." he muttered and left, knowing it well that they would turn a deaf ear at his kitchen-related suggestions.
"Woh hai kahan?...any idea? Is she even back? Ya mereko fokat me jaldi shoot wrap karwane ko bola?...." He comes back to ask Ma.
"Ohho...Sid, she went neeche tak kuch laane ...akeli nahi gayi hai...aa jayegi. Chill kar tu thoda der...ja jake news dekh...Ritu, isko de do isko jo khane ko chaiye...get lost" Preeti Di dismissed him, making Ritu giggle. Sidharth glared at them both.
"Bhaiyya, kuch dun? Aapka protein bar..?" Ritu asked, covering up her giggle.
"No thanks, hans lo tum...Shehnaaz aaye, toh usko bhejna..." he instructed and left for his room. The mothers did not even pay attention to the banter, being busy in discussing and preparing the recipes virtually together.
____________________________________________"Darling, kidhar hai abhi?" Sidharth chose to call her after waiting for a whole of five minutes.
"Arrey, Neeche tak gayi thi...woh mummy ne kuch yaad dila dia rasam related toh woh lene...tujhe chaiye kuch? Aur tu ghar kab aayega?..." She asked.
"Madam main ghar pe hi hun...tereko kyun jana tha - bolke mangwa sakte they na...subah se kuch khaya piya nahi hai...garmi hai bahar darling, mat ghoomo abhi...weakness ho jayegi achanak se, aise me beemar padogi tum phir..."he reprimanded her.
"Baba, yahin thi...main aa rahi hun in 5 minutes. Aur main do din khana na khaun toh bhi mujhe kuch nahi hoga...Tu gussa kyun ho raha hai Sidharth...yaar ..."she whined.
"Gussa nahi hun...!" He gritted his teeth while responding.
"Tu hai! Tu mujhe tum keh raha hai, matlab gussa hai..."she argued, making him roll his eyes. She knew him more than it was at times required.
"Ye main decide karunga ki main gussa hun, ya tu?" He answered back.
"Main!" Came the answer instantly and brought a smile to his face.
