xviii. a big thanksgiving
2.09The Lee-Sunny family were big on holidays. Everyone was invited, there were always meals for people with allergies, preferences, and they always found a way to accommodate people's lifestyle choices in the food too. It was safe to say that practically everyone had a welcoming seat at the large Lee-Sunny table.
Atlas always made desert: cupcakes, pie, cookies, cake — once he even made fresh ice cream. ( if he wasn't a surgeon, he would have become a baker, or maybe he would have just become a baker to wear one of those fancy puffy white hats. )
And we'll Atlas made deserts, his family did other jobs. Lilla always cooked the turkey, it was tradition ( and the fact that no one else could make it likes hers without ruining it. )
His younger siblings were always put on vegetables, they would cut, slice, thin, wash it all — then make dinner with it, even if it just meant boiling them.
And his father, he often just say there and watch ( Lilla would often kick her husband out of the kitchen, mostly because he always got in the way. ) No one complained.
Atlas's hand were covered from top to bottom in flower, he was rolling out the pie crust and somehow — he wasn't sure how — ended up with flower covered hands. A high beat song was playing in the background as he rolled and kneaded the dough.
"Mom! Dad! Atly and El!" Oliver cam bouncing into the kitchen, someone right on his heels.
The loud yell caused Atlas to drop his dough on the floor.
"Oliver!" Atlas shouted back, pointing at the dough on the floor.
Oliver only smiled sheepishly.
"Hey, hey family! This is Venus." Oliver introduced the female who now stood by his side, a shy smile on her face. Now of course Atlas had met her, so had Eliza, but Oliver felt like he had to formally introduce the one he had been talking too.
"It's nice to see you again, Venus." Atlas wiped the flower off his hands on his apron before shaking the dirty blondes hand.
"W-what? You two know each other?" Oliver asks, looking like a sad, small little puppy.
"Shes a cardio nurse, and I'm a cardio attending. Did you not think about that baby brother?" Atlas teased.
"I-uh-no?" The room laughs.

Huge. That was the only word Atlas could use to describe this thanksgiving dinner. Everyone was stuffed into the Lee-Sunny home, everyone. All of Oliver's and Eliza's intern friends ( including Meredith and Venus, but George was out for the day hunting with his brothers ) were sitting at their own table playing a game of card.
Lilla and her husband had their own family and friend standing or sitting in the living chatting about the recent news everyone had.
And the there was Atlas and everyone in his life, he had Miranda Bailey and her husband standing not to far away, there were a few attending Atlas had gotten along with well, including Burke. There was the chief and his wife talking with Burke. And then there was Addison and Derek — Atlas wasn't sure how his ex-boyfriend and the ex-boyfriends wife had gotten an invite, maybe it was his mother trying to sneakily push them back together again.
Atlas didn't know, Atlas didn't care.
"Dinner!" Lilla called out, causing everyone to grab their own plates and move into the kitchen to dish themselves up.
"Those cookies you made were really good." Addison said as she moved to stand beside Atlas.
"Thank you." Was all he said, he didn't know what else to say to her.
"Did your mother teach you how to bake?" Addison kept the conversation going.
"She did."
"She seems like a very nice woman." Atlas smiled at Addison, it wasn't a fake smile but a genuine smile.
"Atlas!" Bailey yelled which caused heads to turn.
"Bails?" He moved away from Addison towards the short resident.
"Where's the alcohol? This ones empty." She held an empty bottle of alcohol. Atlas only chuckled and grabbed another bottle from one of the cupboards. He send a look towards Baileys husband as if he was saying "be careful".

Atlas watched as most of the friends and family got into their cars or cabs and headed to their homes. His eyes locked onto Addisons, she was leaning a against her car by herself.
"Waiting for Derek?"
"Uh, yeah. Thank you for dinner. Well actually thank you for letting us come here, considering everything we had put your though." Addisons voice was quiet.
"It's no problem really. We work together." Atlas replied.
There was a long pause, both adults looking toward the house, until Addison spoke up, "do you hate me?"
Atlas's eyes widened and his mouth parted, "w-what? No, why would you think that?"
"Because you were so happy with Derek, and then I showed up. Then I took him back."
"If I knew you two were married, I wouldn't have done anything. He was your husband before he was my boyfriend. Addison, I don't hate you."
"Thank you."

"Addison had made a mistake." Derek breathed out as he stood in-front of Lilla.
Lilla gave him a look, signalling for him to continue.
"She cheated on me. With my best friend."
Lillas expression softened slightly. "So what did he mean to you? He couldn't have just been a distraction."
"He wasn't. I moved here and met him, and then we got closer, and then we started dating. And I thought about Addison, but I thought about how much I wanted what I had with Addison, with Atlas." Derek admitted, he's eyes casting downwards as if he was trying to avoid the look he would receive.
"Atlas told me — well actually all my children told me, and their friends told me too. You found him, and you never thought you would have to deal with her again, you thought the pain was over, and you chose Atlas then. But now she's back and your trying to fix it. And as bad as it is, I'm proud of you for trying. Because you wouldn't be you if you didn't, Derek. Just know, if you hurt him again I'll beat you with this cloth." Lilla lifted the cloth she held.
