lxi. solo surgery's
5.10Oliver and Eliza were playing cards, some kind of go fish with a twist — whoever won would get the first choice at their pick of Atlas's weekend baking.
Currently they were playing to pass the time well the attendings voted on who would get their first solo surgery. At the moment, neither really cared who won, they would support their friends no matter who one — yes, they might be jealous but that was okay too.
Neither were very interested in the interns — who had gotten into deep, deep, kicked out of the program, but didn't get kicked out of the program shit — who were going back and forth from spying on the higher up staff, to the resident(s) that might get the surgery.
"The chief sent me. They made their choice." Little Grey, or Lexie Grey came running into the room.
George looked to her with wide eyes, "Who is it?"
Neither one of the Lee-Sunny residents looked up at Lexie for any longer than a quick glance, if they got the surgery than yay if they didn't that oh no!
Lexie took a long, painful pause. Everyone was waiting for her to announce the winner of the their first solo surgery.
"It's you." Lexie pointed forward, her outreached hand pointing right at Christina.
Most of the residents turned to glare at Christina, she was out of the running but she had won and that angered them. The second year residents made their way out of the residents lounge towards the nurses station.
Alex, Meredith, Izzie, George and the Lee-Sunny twins were all huddled outside of the room the chief and other surgeons were in.
Richard walked out with Christina trailing behind him, "I am happy to announce that the first solo surgery will take place tonight — a below-the-knee amputation, bone cancer. Mr. Collinsworth in 2212."
"No appy?" Meredith looked over to her fellow residents.
Alex grinned, "Saw action. Sweet."
"Choosing who gets the first solo surgery isn't just about who has the best surgical skills or who's logged the most hours in the O.R." Richard Webber spoke up, "It's about the highest form of trust — the trust to put a patient's life into one of our resident's hands. And for the first time that I can recall, every single attending picked the same person."
Oliver and Eliza shared a look — they were both surprised that Atlas hadn't voted for either of them.
"Dr. Yang." Webber told the group. "However, Dr. Yang is out of the running. She is going to pick the winner instead. Dr. Yang will post her decision on the O.R. Board at 4:00 P. M. Also, since your interns are still banned from the O.R, The winner will be allowed to pick a fellow resident to scrub in with them. Good luck."

Christina walked up to Oliver, "Your not going to bribe me or tell me to chose you? Your not going to plead your case?"
Oliver shook his head. "No. If you want to pick me, then pick me. I'm qualified. But so is Eliza and Alex or Meredith and George, same with Izzie. Same with you."
"You don't want me to pick you?" Christina quirked a brow.
Oliver handed Christina the rest of his chocolate bar. "I do. I can tell you how to do the surgery if you like — walk you through it step by step. Or you can just chose. I'll support your choice no matter what because that's what I was taught to do, and because it's the right thing."
Christina let that sit, she still had to talk to the others she hadn't talked too and figure out what she wanted, who she was going to pick. "Thanks Olly."
"Your welcome, Cristina."
Christina gave a faint smile before she walked away to find Eliza. Christina paused as she walked Eliza talk with a nurse about something, presumably a patient.
"El." Christina spoke once the nurse walked away.
"Hey Christina!" Eliza grinned and bounced over.
"Hi." There was a pause before Christina continued. "Why should I choose you for the solo surgery?"
Eliza shrugged. "You shouldn't chose me. I'll get my change one day far and square."
Christina blinked at her friend. "Did you just tell me not to pick you?"
Eliza smiled, "Yep." She said popping the 'p'.
Eliza walked off, probably to tend to a patient or go and talk to one of her brothers.
Christina stood there with a blank face. She knew who she was picking, but now she need to tell the chief about what she thought and decided.

Christina held the white board marker in her hand. She had discussed what she was going to do with the chief and he approved — Christina had picked out both the lead surgeon and the surgeon to assist.
It wasn't a hard choice, and it was clear as day the two people deserved it, they had proved it to her. In the end, Christina couldn't pick between the two.
Lead surgeon — KAREV, A
Assisting — LEE-SUNNY, O
"Is she kidding?" George muttered as he watched her write on the board.
"Congratulations." Meredith told both Alex and Oliver.
"Whatever." Alex shrugged.
"Thanks, Mer." Oliver smiled towards Meredith.
Oliver walked off behind Alex. The surgery was soon. "Wanna go over?" He asked the lead on the surgery.
"Sure." Alex nodded and the two walked off to review the case and surgery before it was time.
The two spent whatever time they had reviewing before it was time. Both Oliver and Alex scrubbed, and then we're gowned.
Both of them stepped up to the operating table confidently, they were ready.
"Scalpel." Alex held his hand out.

Atlas walked into the gallery with a huge smile on his face. He walked over quickly and sat in the open spot beside Bailey. "You taught them well." He pointed out — yes, there had been mistakes, but they were good people and good soon-to-be surgeons.
"Thank you." Bailey nodded.
Oliver looked up towards the gallery in hopes of spotting his brother. When he did, he raised his hand slight and waved.
Atlas grinned and waved back.
