civ. mama o'malley
8.08"You two will not mess anything up." Miranda Bailey scarily turned her head to looked at Meredith and Eliza. She trusted the two of them to be professional with her patient, and not to sit there and chitchat the whole time like Oliver might.
"When I say this is a very important patient, I mean, she is very important to me. I do not like it, but I have a very full schedule today and you two will have to be my proxys." Eliza and Meredith nodded when Bailey stood them. "No one touches this patient but you two. You'll run every test I ask for, you'll report everything back to me personally. This woman has lots a husband and a son in this hospital. I will not have another O'Malley lost under this roof."
Eliza stilled. "O'Malley? George's mother? His siblings?"
Meredith told tilted her head. "O'Malley? George's mother is our v.i.p?"
"Meredith Grey. Eliza Lee-Sunny." George's mother beamed from where she laid in her hospital bed. Her smile was so large, and she was just so happy. "It's been so long. You two come over here and give me a hug.
Eliza couldn't back out now. She steps forward and extends her arms to gently wrap around George's mother who wants a hug.

"George's mother wants to see you." Eliza told her older brother, Atlas, whom was holding a chart to his chest and carrying a hot tea in his hands.
Atlas almost dropped his tea. "What? Why me?" He stared at his sister, eyeing her and thinking it was a joke.
"She's here, Atly. Miss O'Malley is here, and she's requesting to see you before she goes into surgery." Eliza slowly told her brother, trying to say her words slow so he wouldn't get scared off and run away before she could convince him to go see the older woman.
"Huh." Atlas sighed out. His grip on his tea tightened, and he dropped his shoulders.
Derek walked around the corner, eyeing his husband who he quickly stepped up too. "Hey, baby."
"Hi." Atlas whispered, choosing to just lean his head against his husbands shoulder and not look at him.
Derek looked towards Eliza, sending her a confused look. "What's wrong with him?"
"George's mom is here, Miss O'Malley, and she wants to see Atlas." Eliza told Derek, keeping her lips in a fine line as she looked towards her brother who was staring off into space. She could practically see the gears turning in her brothers head. "And now he's kinda drifted into staring into space."
"Atlas, baby?" Derek pulled away from his husband. "You okay?"
"No. I can't face the mother of the person I supported and told to go into the army. " Atlas muttered and turned towards his husband in a panic.
Derek frowned, "Baby, love, you can do this. She might just want to say hi."
"Right. Yeah, maybe." Atlas nodded. "Okay. Where is she, El?"
Eliza wrapped her arm around her brothers shoulders. "I'll take you to her."
It took them seven minutes and eleven seconds to get to Miss O'Malleys room. In those seven minutes and eleven seconds, Atlas had tried to turn away twice. He was scared, he was panicky, he didn't know what to say to the woman who had lost her son — to the son he couldn't save.
"Atlas." Miss O'Malley smiled brightly as Atlas stepped into her hospital room. "Honey."
"Miss O'Malley. Hi." Atlas walked into the room. He smiled, sitting down in the chair that was placed beside her bed.
"Dear, how are you?" Mama O'Malley asked, leaning slightly in her hospital bed. She reached out and grabbed ahold of Atlases hand, holding it in her own.
"I'm sorry." Atlas looked down, sniffling. He hated this feeling in his chest. He didn't want to cry, he was a grown adult who shouldn't be crying in front of his dead colleagues mother. She was probably still mourning the death of her son. "So so sorry miss O'Malley."
Mama O'Malley blinked in shock. Her eyes widening before she squeezed Atlas hand. "For what, dear?"
"George. I, oh gosh, he had came to me and told me that he joined the army. I told him I was proud, and that I supported him, and that he should go." Atlas cried, letting all the words out in a babble. He felt so bad. He wish Eliza didn't have such a strong grip on him as she had led him to the older woman's room. "I could have said no. That he shouldn't go. You must hate me — and I avoided you at his funeral."
"Oh dear," Mama O'Malley started, holding the mans hand tighter, showing that she was still there. "I couldn't hate you. You, you meant so much to my son. He looked up to you."
Atlas nodded, wiping the tears away as they streamed down his rosey cheeks. "Miss O'Malley, I, I can't tell you how sorry I am. To you, to George, to your whole family. Not only was I someone in your sons life, I was his doctor, and I never did apologize for your loss."
"When he came home one day, I made him cookies. He told me that you made him cookies, and it made him feel at home, that it reminded him of me." Mama O'Malley said. "You, my dear, couldn't ever be at fault for his death. He died protecting someone he never knew. You are not at fault." She smiled. "Now, kids? You and Derek?"
"We're married." Atlas told her, sniffling but smiling. "And we have a daughter. And a dog."
Atlas had never gotten over the trauma that came with George's death. It clung to him like wet clothing. We see here, that it's been sitting there in his heart for so long, that the sight of Mama O'Malley had caused it to bubble to the surface. But he feels better now, now that he knows Mama O'Malley doesn't blame him for the death of her son.
"Oh, woah dear, awe, do you have pictures?"
