After waking up to the warm, golden glow of sunshine peering through my window and stretching across the floor, I sat myself up in bed.
The room is empty of people from as far as I can tell, my sister and Boc being elsewhere.
I take some time and relish the sunlight, something that I rarely do is just enjoy being somewhere, slowly and steadily breathing in and breathing out.
"Nessa." I hear a silky voice whisper from just around the door way "Nessa are you awake?"
I smile to myself as Glinda creeps around the door and pauses when she sees me.
"Good morning" she stutters, "you look well Nessarose."
Glinda grins feebly at me, I take note of her gorgeous yellow dress and matching yellow earrings."How are you Glinda?" I ask sweetly, recalling how she shouted at me the day before.
Glinda shuffles awkwardly, she opens her mouth to answer but before she can, my sister and Boc walk through the door, they both stop suddenly when they see Glinda.
I notice that Boc refuses eye contact with her, I'm assuming another conversation occurred after I sent Boc away.
"Good morning Elphaba." I smile, ignoring the unusual atmosphere in the otherwise sunny room.
"Boc" I mumble suddenly, he turns to me with wide eyes "could you fetch me a glass of water?"
Boc nods and dashes off, I chuckle at his obedience.
Glinda sits herself down on the opposite side of the room to my sister and Elphaba takes a step closer to me.
"Did you sleep well Nessarose?" My sister beams, I nod happily.
"I have always loved this room."As my eyes flicker around the room, I catch a glimpse of my chair, starring at it longingly I hear my sister sigh.
I've promised myself that I'll stay in bed for a few days.
After a few minutes Boc walks back in clutching a silver tray in his arms, a glass of water sits gently on top of it.
As Boc approaches I start to feel a bit unusual, I can't explain the feeling but it must just be the fact that I've not had anything to drink for a while.
Boc lowers the tray down beside me and I slowly, uneasily reach for the water.
I curl my fringes around cook glass and hold the drink steady for a few seconds.
"Nessa are you alright?" My sister asks anxiously.
I focus myself on lifting the cup but as a do so the same unusual sensation that's caused me to tear apart the house, darts along my arm and into the glass, a small crack starts to appear.
Terrified, I let go of the glass and clutch my hands together by my chest.
"What in Oz!" Boc cries, placing down the tray.
I look back helplessly at the jagged line across the side of the glass, tears pick my eyes and I will myself not to cry.
It was an accident, I didn't mean to.
"It's okay Ness." Glinda trembles suddenly, "just try again."
I nod slowly and reach for the glass again.
My hand isn't even clenched around the cup this time but the fact that my hand is within mere inches of cup exaggerates the crack, I gasp loudly and pull my hand away."Elphaba!" I wail, my sister walks around to the other side of the bed and clasps my hands in hers.
"Nessa-"
"No Elphie!" I snap "yours have never been like this."
My sister nods, curling green fingers around my hands.
"I know." She nods "I know Nessa and I'm sorry."
My sister let's go of my hands and I take this as her telling me to try and hold the glass again, I hesitate and turn to Glinda and Boc for help but neither of them offer to lift the glass for me.
In a way I'm thankful that they are pushing me but at the same time, I'm desperate to rest again.
This time as I slowly approach the glass, the water inside starts to tremble.
"Elphaba!" I mutter uneasily.
The water thrashes again the glass, demanding to be let out of its cylindrical prison, I finally get my hand around the cup for a few seconds before the glass shatters in my hand.
I scream and flail my hand about and Boc clings tightly to my wrist, stopping me from moving it.
"Nessa!" He cries "Nessa, Nessa it's okay!"
I slow my breathing down and look straight into Bocs eyes.
"Boc" I mumble, Boc meets my eyes with his "my hand." I wail.
Everyone, myself included, immediately stare down at my hand, blood has trickled out of it and is pouring down onto Bocs."Nessa!" Glinda gasps.
I look sadly at Boc.
"I'm getting blood on you." I whisper.
Boc takes a deep breath and lays my hand into his palm, I see a small gash in the centre of my palm.
The cut is only minor but the amount of blood dripping from it is making me sick.
"Glinda," I hear my sister cry, "fetch me a handkerchief"
After a few seconds, Glinda has tightly secured a handkerchief around my stinging hand, I watch as it turns from pearly white to a muted crimson in a matter of minutes.
I lean forward slightly to look at the water and cracked glass on the floor.
"I didn't mean to." I cry.
"Nessa it's okay, we know" Boc replies heartbrokenly.
"I wasn't even upset."
My sister takes a cautious step towards me.
"Are you tired Nessarose?" She asks calmly.
I raise an eyebrow at her.
"I've only just woken up." I reply, slightly perplexed.
My sister nods.
"Where's our mother and your father?" I ask my sister, she looks blankly at me for a few seconds, staring into the air before me.
"Upstairs together." She replies hastily "mother was here before you woke up."
I nod slowly, smiling at my sister.
Elphaba looks around the room before deciding to leave me to my own devises and for a moment I relish in the peace and quiet.
