LITTLE MISS MUDBLOOD – ACT 2 : SCENE 2 : CHAPTER 92

⋆ ⋆ ⋆ ⋆

Y/N received two pieces of mail Monday morning — one was a letter from Harry, the other her Daily Prophet newspaper. She read Harry's letter first: he'd had a talk with Sirius the previous night about his scar hurting, and Ron had been sent a letter from Percy telling him to 'sever ties' with Harry.

The Daily Prophet, however, had Y/N even more concerned and even on the front page, reading:

MINISTRY SEEKS EDUCATIONAL REFORM DOLORES

UMBRIDGE APPOINTED FIRST-EVER "HIGH INQUISITOR"

"'High Inquisitor'?" Daphne said darkly, blue eyes flicking over her own copy of the Prophet. "What does that mean?"

Blaise read aloud:

"In a surprise move last night the Ministry of Magic passed new legislation giving itself an unprecedented level of control at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

"'The Minister has been growing uneasy about going-on at Hogwarts for some time,' said Junior Assistant to the Minister, Percy Weasley. 'He is now responding to concerns voiced by anxious parents, who feel the school may be moving in a direction they do not approve.'"

"What parents," Y/N muttered, more to herself, but Theodore let out a snort. Maybe she should become a comedian and specialize in dark humor — Harry would certainly get a kick out of going to her shows.

Blaise continued:

"This is not the first time in recent weeks Fudge has used new laws to effect improvements at the Wizarding school. As recently as August 30th Educational Decree Twenty-two was passed, to ensure that, in the event of the current headmaster being unable to provide a candidate for a teaching post, the Ministry should select an appropriate person.

"'That's how Dolores Umbridge came to be appointed to the teaching staff at Hogwart,' said Weasley last night. 'Dumbledore couldn't find anyone, so the Minister put in Umbridge and of course, she's been an immediate success, totally revolutionizing the teaching of Defense Against the Dark Arts and providing the Minister with on-the-ground feedback about what's really happening at Hogwarts.'"

Blaise kept reading and, the more Y/N heard, the more she was in disbelief. High Inquisitor? What, were they going to give Umbridge stilts and a jolly ole' top hat to go along with her new position? Mr. Malfoy had also given a quote — with a sharp look to Draco, she muttered something about getting to Charms fifteen minutes early to hand in her work that was due from the previous Monday.

"Look, I didn't say anything to father, Y/N, not this year," Draco said two minutes later, trailing after her stomps to Charms class.

She barely acknowledged him, mumbling, "It's fine, Draco."

"I don't know why he even said anything in the first place, honestly," he went on, striding beside her. She huffed under her breath, her grip tightening on her bag. She really wasn't mad at him or his father, she just hated Umbridge, and that article didn't make it any better. "It's not like he has anything to gain —"

Y/N stopped in the middle of the corridor, rounding on him. Did he ever stop talking?

"Look, do I need to suck your dick or something to show you that I'm fine?" she hissed quietly, glancing down the corridor in hopes that no one heard her. "I'm not mad at you. Or your father. It's whatever."
