Beautiful Disaster

A/N: the moment I heard this song, I thought of this moment. I thought of Y/n and Obito. The brokenness. "The Unknown" by 10 years.

This fucking penthouse was where the disaster all began. So fitting it should all come crashing down here. Heavy burdens fell upon her shoulders. Anguish, dark, and full of rapture echoed in her heart. The anger that seeped from her had been washed away. That was when she knew it was over. Whatever embers burned had been snuffed out long ago. The ashes coated her hands as she tried to hold it all together.

When Y/n had gone home to pack, she made sure Obito wasn't home. Spotting her ring beside the bed, she took it. It wasn't for her to wear, no. It was for her to show him this was truly the end. The end of this beautiful disaster. Heading into the unknown.

The door opened, and she didn't even tense as she heard the latch close. Nor did she react to the sound of the lock clicking. She knew who walked in because he was searching for her. This wasn't where he expected her to be, but he knew when she wasn't in their shared home that this was where she was.

His footsteps were unsteady as he approached. His eyes fleeted over the bare penthouse, empty since she had vacated the property years ago. Then, tired eyes caught the glint of a diamond on the kitchen island. His heartbeat was unsteady as he walked closer to the marble counter. With a shaking hand, his fingers nearly dropped the ring as he picked it up.

She never turned around as he stood there, tears welling at the action she had taken. There was a finality to it that lanced him to the core. He'd ask where he went wrong, but he knew. The one night of drunken stupidity had ruined his life. All of their lives. All because he couldn't ask his wife the questions he needed to. That he wanted to. That he was too damned scared to ask.

It hurt for her to stand there and hear his silent tears. Or at least his attempt at silent tears. Her own tears had dried days ago. Turning her head, she saw what she never wanted to see: her husband broken. Kneeling on the floor near the kitchen island, clutching her wedding ring in his hands as he bent forward. The salty liquid fell to the tile beneath him as he raised his head.

"Asami," Obito's tone was pleading as she turned her back to him, "is it too late?" The break in his voice matched the one in her heart.

Arms wrapped around her, Y/n cast her gaze over her shoulder once again. A sad smile on her lips, tears in her eyes, "Yes," she whispered sadly.

Standing, Obito moved closer, "Where did I go wrong?"

She shook her head, "It was never anything you did, Obito," she looked away, "I did this to us."

She knew that he meant before- before the one-night stand. Before he made the dumbest decision of his life. When he asked where he went wrong, it was before. Was there something before? Was the 'affair' simply the straw that broke the camel's back? The tipping point to their fraud of a marriage?

"I screwed up," he rushed out as he grew closer, "I was drunk-"

"You've said that already," she was far too calm. Obito knew when she was calm, she was the most lethal. Clearing her throat and squaring her shoulders, Y/n turned. Bloodshot eyes locked onto his slackened face. This HURT. "We were never meant to be, Obito. Just because the sex was good doesn't mean the love was. Love can only carry you so far in life. If you rely on love to get you through things, then what is there to fall back on?"

Obito scoffed, "Love has gotten us this far," as Y/n arched her brow, Obito continued, "You're the one who's been lying to me for so long. The things in that safe- the safe!" He shouted. "What else are you hiding, Y/n?"
