Once sleep finally came, morning arrived all too soon. The day was bright and beautiful. A stark contrast to the mood that lingered in the penthouse. As Y/n lay with her head on Obito's lap, he calmly brushed his fingers through her hair. The feelings that stirred within their hearts were the same yet different.
The front door opened, signaling that time had run out. Shisui's steps were slow as he entered the home. No one wanted to be there. No one wanted to deal with the situation at hand. No one knew what to expect from the man calling in mere minutes. Only time would tell what the outcome would be.
Y/n wanted to get it over with. Partly. Another part of her wanted to ignore the situation altogether. As if it were that simple. That island was suddenly sounding very appealing. Ironic.
Sitting in the chair close to the couple, Shisui was surprised to see them in an endearing position. They hadn't been openly affectionate in quite some time. Maybe that's what a tragedy does to people.
Obito looked at Shisui, "Have you heard anything?"
Shaking his head, Shisui answered, "Nothing."
"Maybe he forgot," Y/n joked, though there was no humor to her tone.
"I find it strange that Madara is only contacting you," Obito had been thinking too long.
Lifting a brow, Shisui questioned his cousin, "Are you implying something?"
Feeling Obito shift, Y/n knew an argument was about to begin. "What if I am?" Obito asked with a smug look on his face.
Y/n squeezed Obito's thigh in warning. It didn't matter. There was enough implication in Obito's words that Shisui was pissed off. As Shisui moved to sit on the edge of his seat, Y/n listened to the drumming of Obito's heart.
"The fact that you would even think that I would do something like that-"
"You were always the easier one to manipulate," Obito cut Shisui off. He kept an aloof attitude, even though his heart was racing. "Who's to say that he hasn't figured out a way to do it again. Did he promise you Y/n at the end of it all? A happily ever after that you've always dreamed of."
Pushing herself up as she spoke, Y/n looked at Obito dumbfounded, "I think that's enough." Her eyes cut to Shisui. "You know damn good and well that Shisui would never do anything like that."
Curious, Obito tilted his head, "Wouldn't do what?" He voiced. "Wouldn't throw me away to be able to have you? Wouldn't work with Madara to get secure his hold on you?"
Fuming, Shisui stood, "The fuck do you get off?" He shouted. "I would never betray you. For anyone, even Y/n."
Blinking, Y/n watched as Obito stood up. The few steps between cousins closed. Then, standing face to face, they were ready to square off. They both had something to prove. Was it to each other? Themselves? Or to Y/n? No one knew. Or maybe it was even to prove something to Madara that no one needed him. That the family was just as capable without as with him.
Before anyone could counter, Shisui's phone began to ring. Reaching into the pocket of his slacks, he stared at the screen. "Yes?" He reluctantly answered.
"When you give her the phone," Shisui looked at Y/n, "tell her to go into the office."
"What?" He questioned.
Sighing, Madara repeated, "Send her to the office," he paused a moment, "I already told you I wanted to speak to her alone."
Holding the phone out to Y/n, Shisui told her, "He wants you to go into the office."
