Saturday morning Obito woke alone in bed. A strange occurrence since the couple had managed to spend most of the week in bed. 'Working' from home. Glancing at the clock, the bright blue letters glared back: 6:04 am. Now worried, Obito moved from the bed in his loose cotton pants and padded into the living area.

Empty. Everything was empty.

Heart racing, a drumbeat he could only recall a few times in his life, he walked to get his phone. Spotting Y/n's on her side of the bed, the rational part of his brain kicked in. He never checked the bathroom. Nearing the door, he heard the flush of the toilet as Y/n stepped from the secluded room.

Their eyes met, and Y/n gave a weak smile, "I didn't mean to wake you."

Lips parting to let a sigh slip free, Obito shook his head in argument, "I was worried when I woke up, and you weren't there."

Y/n's smile widened, a genuine grin on her lips, "Bito," she stepped closer, "you should know better than that."

Rather than moving towards Obito, Y/n headed for the large tub. Obito watched as Y/n slipped into an automated mode. Her motions weren't natural. His thoughts raced as hers stopped, it seemed. Both lost in their own rights, neither knowing what to say to help the other find where they needed to be.

It was funny. The last few days had been perfect. Mikoto insisted on letting the couple spend the time alone. Even when they showed up Thursday morning to pick up Tsuki, they were refused after the extended family shared breakfast. Mikoto and Sakura both, even Izumi, told them to spend the rest of the week alone.

So they did.

They spent the time learning how to speak without words. Hands delicate and rough were able to convey what their mouths couldn't. Vocalizing their fears and dreams made them palpable. Vulnerable. Neither of them did very well in those situations.

Behind it all, Obito knew that Y/n was still keeping something from him. Maybe more than one thing. But whatever secrets she held were so great that her thoughts would drift. This faraway look would glide across her face. Her e/c would become glassy and misplaced. Her heart would plunge into that dark hole that Alice thought she had dug herself from.

Alice was far from free from the chains that hauled her deeper and deeper into the depths. No matter how hard she fought to pull herself free, there was nothing she could do. Every tug only allowed for the iron to burrow into her flesh. Every yank made the shackles tighten even more. She was drowning in darkness, and she wasn't sure if Obito's light could save her this time.

Obito cut the water off as Y/n stood there. That distant look in her eyes as she didn't notice the water cresting the edge of the porcelain tub. Lifting her head, she didn't try to hide the desperation this time.

Unsure of what to do or say about her mood, Obito avoided it. "You take a bath and relax," he pressed a kiss to her forehead, "I'll go make breakfast."

Y/n began to pull her red, silken robe from her bare body with a soft hum and nod. "Oh." Obito cast a gaze over his shoulder, "Zabuza and Kikyo are coming up at eight." Obito's lips twitched, but he didn't react. "Tsuki asked Kikyo if they could have Minnie Mouse waffles together this morning."

"Dammit," Obito mumbled, "You're loving this aren't you?" He teased.

With a light giggle, Y/n said, "Perhaps," she stepped into the tub. "I'll help when I'm dressed." Obito knew that Y/n would be taking her time as she sank into the soothing water.
