Death

Sitting in the apartment, Y/n wondered if this was the best decision. She wanted to be the one to do it. She wanted to be there. She wanted to see the rewards that were bestowed upon her after so long. A small sliver of happiness in the darkness that surrounded her.

"Pizza should be here in twenty," Vivekka's voice made Y/n's return to the present.

With a weak smile, Y/n replied, "Sounds good."

Vivekka had gone to change from her scrubs while she ordered pizza. Sitting beside Y/n on the couch, she grabbed the remote from the arm of the sofa.

"How have you been?" Y/n wanted to keep the focus on Viv.

Turning the volume down after choosing the news, Viv looked over to Y/n, "Things have been busy at the hospital," Viv was a floater throughout the hospital unless a high-end patient was inpatient. "But it's been pretty good other than that. We had this gnarly rebar impale patient last night."

The light that danced in Viv's eyes made Y/n miss nursing. Maybe she should've followed in her mother's footsteps after all. Then life would've turned out so different. Better or worse? She'll never know.

"Do you miss working on the L and D floor?" Labor and delivery was Viv's original focus of study.

"I get to pick up a shift up there every now and then," she confessed, "I love being able to help with the emergency cases. Knowing that we made life happen, against all odds, there's nothing else like it."

"Thank you for what you've done for the family," Y/n's words caught Vivekka off guard. "I know we're hard to work with-"

"You're hard to work with," Vivekka cut in before she laughed. "I've enjoyed getting to know all of you. I was a recluse before I met you. You've really helped me come out of my comfort zone."

Shrugging, Y/n wasn't sure how to take the compliment. Everyone else in her life hated her. Maybe not Tobirama. And she didn't want to count Madara. But Vivekka was someone she truly did consider a friend.

"I don't know about that," Y/n smiled weakly, "But thank you. And thank you for this. I needed to get out of that mansion."

"About that," Y/n could tell Vivekka didn't want to press her, "I heard you and Obito are separated."

"Who-" A knock at the door cut Y/n off.

Puzzled, Viv looked at her phone, "It shouldn't be the pizza."

Walking to the door, Vivekka looked through the peephole. Y/n watched as her friend's shoulder went stiff.

"Is something wrong?" Y/n stood quickly.

Looking over her shoulder, Viv gave Y/n an apologetic look, "Hold on a second."

The woman tried to open the door and slip out. It didn't work in her favor. The person on the other side had immediately stepped into the apartment, kissing Vivekka fiercely. Y/n's heart fell as she saw the familiar man's mused hair.

Gasping for breath, Vivekka gave him a gentle push, "I have company." She rushed out.

Dark eyes captured e/c ones. "G-Y/n," his hand fell from Viv's cheek, "is everything okay?"

Mentally screaming at herself, Y/n put every ounce of effort she had into smiling. "I was just visiting with Vivekka," Y/n's eyes cut over, "I suppose he's the one who told you I'm separated from Obito." There was no question.

"Please," Vivekka began to walk towards Y/n, "I wanted to tell you-"

"I'm not mad, Viv," Y/n scoffed, "I'm happy that Shisui has found someone to make him happy. And I'm over the moon that it's you."

Shisui saw through every lie. He was the one who begged Vivekka not to tell Y/n. It wasn't the time for his love life to be on display. It wasn't fair to be selfish at a time like this. He tried not to peruse her. There was just something about the innocent blush on her cheeks that contradicted her heated words when she became defensive.

Vivekka visibly relaxed, "Oh, thank god," she plopped onto the couch.

"I'll leave so you two can enjoy some time together," Y/n picked her phone and keys up from the coffee table. "I know how hard it is to find time for one another."

"You don't have to leave," Shisui interjected, "I can come-"

"I'm sure Tobirama is wondering where I am," cold and distant Y/n returns. The facade was thrown up the moment an Uchiha entered the scene.

Standing, Viv gave Y/n a tight hug. Stepping back, she said, "Call me, and we'll figure out a night we can hang out. Okay?"

"That sounds nice," Y/n's smile was tight.

As Y/n walked to the door where Shisui stood, he looked to his apparent girlfriend, "I'm going to walk her down."

"Okay," Y/n could hear the joy in her friend's voice.

Knowing he would just follow her, Y/n remained silent as Shisui closed the door behind them. The air grew thick with tension as they walked toward the elevator. The idea of being confined in a small space with Y/n was unsettling at the moment. Shisui needed to say something, though. But what?

Pressing the button, Y/n turned to Shisui, "I am happy for you," her resolve was something to be commended, "I wish I didn't have to find out this way." The ping echoed before the doors opened, "You don't have to come down."

"Y/n-"

"I'm fine, Shisui," she ignored the imploring look in his eyes. "It's not like we were ever going to be together." Y/n stepped into the elevator, holding her arm out for a moment. "I was just hoping that not all of you Uchiha were liars."

The woman's timing was impeccable as the doors slid close before Shisui could even stutter out a single word.

Watching the black SUV drive down the road made his pulse quicken. The decoy had arrived over an hour ago. He wasn't sure why the FBI was so predictable, but they always were. You'd think they'd find something better after decades of processions being attacked.

It was of no matter to him. He had a job to do. He wanted the man dead as much as anyone else back in Konoha. The things the man did to those he cared about. The torment. The torture. The ridicule. The death. The hate. It was all because of two men.

And one was about to be wiped off the face of the earth.

Under cover of camouflage, he readied his weapon. The gun was loaded. Barrel ready. Finger flipped the safety off. Flexing his index finger, he placed it on the trigger. One shot. That was all he needed.

The door all opened at once.

Eye on the scope.

Searching.

Waiting.

There. The dyed hair didn't deceive him at all.

Pressure was placed on the trigger. The shot was silent as it whizzed through the hair at high velocity. He didn't wait to see the bullet hit its target. He was already on the move. While he trusted his choice of location, there was always a chance someone would spot him.

The screams and yells carried through the streets. The valet driver was throwing up on the curb. Two FBI agents were scanning the rooftops. Two more were checking windows. One was hovering over the body that lay at his feet. Blood and grey matter splattered the concrete.

Safe and on the road, the shooter made a call.

"It's done, Hikari," the woman couldn't believe her ears.

"Thank you, Tobirama," the call was ended before he tossed the burner phone out the window to the pavement.

The news spread quickly that evening. Suna. Konoha. Kiri.

Danzo Shimura was dead.
