Possible Trigger Warning:

The front door opened, and a happy giggle floated through the air. The early afternoon light filled the penthouse as it streamed through the wall of windows. Spring was nipping at winter's heels as it pushed the warmth over the cold. Yet, as the laugh floated away, a heaviness settled over the two as they saw the occupant of the home.

"Bito," Y/n smiled, "I was worried you'd be working late again."

Onyx eyes shifted from Y/n and to the man standing beside her. His hand was settled on her lower back, just low enough to make someone wonder.

Fighting the growl that itched in his throat, he greeted the two, "I came home early to surprise you," his smile was weak at best, "before we picked up the girls." The lingering emotion, as well as hint of why he'd come home early, tasted bitter.

"I wanted to make sure she got home okay," Shisui explained, "I'll see you two on Monday." Then, not waiting for a response, Shisui turned on his heel and headed for the door.

The moment the click echoed in the apartment, the dynamic shifted dangerously. Accusations and questions coated his tongue with an ether that made him want to purge his stomach's contents. Anger rose in her chest as she saw the rage fill his eyes.

"Just say it," Y/n snapped.

A tick in his jaw and Obito asked, "Why weren't you home?"

The decision had been made that Y/n wouldn't go to work most days. She could easily work from home. If she did go to the office, she would ride with Obito. As she fought the urge to roll her eyes, Y/n walked closer to the kitchen. Placing her messenger bag, as well as a portfolio on the island, she headed for the fridge.

Pulling it open, Y/n said, "If you'd actually listen to me," she held a bottle of water as she closed the door, "You'd remember that I told you Shisui was going to drop me off at Hinata's." Finally turning, she leveled her gaze on her husband, "Then he drove me to the Hyuga building to pick those up," she nodded to the portfolio. Open the bottle, she took a heavy sip.

As he searched his memory for the conversation, he shrugged off the errands themselves. "Kisame was supposed to take you," he recalled the talk now. But he was right.

Shaking her head, she said, "Originally," walking towards the bedroom, she said, "This morning, I called and left you a message that Kisame was working today." Tossing the bottle to the bed.

Obito followed after Y/n, "I was busy with work," he continued as Y/n began to strip. His eyes took in every part of her. Not because he wanted to see her flesh. No, Obito wanted to check for markings. "We're having issues with our security system."

Light sweater, peach, was pulled over her head. Pausing with the snap of her jeans, Y/n looked at Obito, "I'm not surprised," she undid the button, "Sasori designed the whole damn thing. He could easily hack the system." Pants off, she tossed them to the bed, "I told you to call Shino at KPD. He handles surveillance and security."

As she turned for the bathroom, Obito nearly lurched forward to grip her arm. Calming himself, Obito continued after her. The thoughts raced in his mind as he watched her turn the bath on. He watched every movement as she tied her hair up into a messy bun. Tossing the rest of her clothes in the hamper, Y/n waited for the bath to fill.

"How do you know Shino?" Obito finally asked.

Shrugging, she turned halfway to him, "I don't know him," she stressed, "I've heard Kakashi talk about him. And Naruto. Plus Kiba-"

"I get it," Obito snapped.

Y/n couldn't count how many times she wanted to roll her eyes over the last week. Obito's questions and tone had become laughable. The hinting. The jabs. It was as if the conversation on Sunday hadn't made a difference. Of course, it likely didn't help that Zabuza had held her for a few minutes before he left.
