A few days after Danzo's death, Y/n was unsettled. The feeling clawed away at her chest. The burn prickling her skin as she waited for the next pin to drop. The next move of the pawns. The dictator showing his hand.

Who was next?

What was next?

Could she survive the next round of the purge? With Danzo dead, what is stopping his son or wife from coming for Y/n? Or Obito? Or the girls? Or anyone?

Madara stated that Danzo was behind the explosion that killed Kisame. Y/n doubted if she could trust Madara. And no matter how she tried to tell herself not to even think about it, she couldn't help but remember one thing: he had always been honest with her.

Sure, he lied about the knowledge he held. But he told the truth about Obito shooting her. He told her about her parents. He told her about Danzo. Rasa. Tora. Tani. He kept leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for her to follow.

Y/n was tired of being the pawn. She didn't want to be the queen either, though. She wanted off the chessboard. No more games. Ever.

This was the final act. This was the time to finish it all. Walk away and never look back. Find the end everyone deserved and deliver it. Deliver him. Offer him to the gods as a sacrifice to save her soul from purgatory.

It kept her awake at night. Y/n wasn't sure where it all went wrong. She had fallen much further down the rabbit hole than she had planned. She spent her days in bed. Her nights were either spent tangled in sheets with Tobirama, or drowning in a bottle of liquor.

Sometimes both.

When the thought crossed her mind to lay it all out there- tell Obito EVERYTHING- Y/n was struck with fear. Out of all the things Madara could use as leverage, why did it have to be that?

How did she even explain it? It hardly made sense to Y/n. The lies and deceit ran back decades. The black widow may be able to weave a web that's lethal, but even she can fall to a predator. The hunter becoming the prey.

She meant what she told Obito. She wanted to go back to him at the end of it all. She wanted to be a family again. Try for a baby again. She wasn't sure if she was naive or stupid to think they could back to how it used to be. But she'd be damned if she didn't at least try.

Tonight though, these thoughts would be the least of her concerns. The predator was coming out from his shadowed perch. Slinking and stalking his prey. She looked delicious to him. Enticing. Inviting. Alluring.

The rain hammered all of Konoha. Flood warnings blared across the screen of everyone's phones. Sirens wailed all over town as police, fire, and paramedics rushed to the scene of accidents and even stranded vehicles. Lightening cascaded down to the earth, shaking it, and the city's occupants, to the foundation. Thunder booming so loudly that windows shook throughout the entire town.

It should be fitting that tonight was the night that the male and female would finally see one another face to face.

Two wolves meet in the dead of night.

The Black Widow and The Alpha would dance again.

Alice would meet the Mad Hatter for another time.

Who would be the prey?

Who would be the hunter?
