It all goes

After recapping everything to Nick, you were all sat around the table. The lights barely giving off enough power for you to see by.
"So you're telling me all this time it was Hydra?" Nick looked directly at you, like you held the answers of all the worlds problems.
You couldn't help the skepticism that crept in when you looked back at him. "You're telling me you had no idea?"

His face dropped as he stared back at you, leaning on the arm that wasn't currently in a sling. "Does this look like the face of someone who knew?"
You let out a sigh, rubbing at your temples, begging the headache to go away. It had been a long few days, barely any sleep and now the stress of Hydra. It was taking its toll. You couldn't help but wish you could go running to Loki and Bucky. That was a long way off yet though, you just had to hope they'd forgive you for what you were planning. You couldn't think about the hurt you were going to cause them, at least not yet anyway.

Bringing your attention back to the current problem, you picked at a piece of loose wood on the table. "The intel run. Whose order was it?" You already knew the answer to that but you wanted to hear it from Nick.
"Head of the security council. Alexander Pierce."
You looked over at Steve, a proud smile across your face. You'd been right all along. Nick wasn't stupid, he knew you would already have that information. It was what you were best at. He knew you were testing his loyalty. SHIELD was his life, you needed to make sure he would do the right thing over protecting it.

A flame appeared in your hand as everyone's eyes fell to you. "I have my target."
You could see the colour drain from Maria's face. She'd never seen the assassin side of you, not many had. "Y-you're target?" She stammered, eyes glued to the flame in your hand.

Falling back into that mindset was scarily easy. Nothing else mattered apart from getting to the target and ending him. He deserved nothing less. You looked up at her a blank expression across your face. You couldn't give away how blood thirsty you felt. "Hydra murdered my parents. I will never find out who ordered that hit. Pierce however tortured the love of my life, he forced me and Steve into a life on the run and he's the head of Hydra. So yes Agent Hill. I have my target."
You could see her swallow the lump in her throat.

In typical Nick Fury style he put your rage to one side, hoping he wouldn't have to deal with it later. "And after him? Then what?"

You didn't get a change to respond. Steve beat you to it. "We're taking down SHIELD." It was a matter of fact, not up for negotiations and you were glad he had your back.

Nick immediately became defensive. "SHIELD had nothing to do with this!" The stress was evident over his face as he looked between Steve and you.
Extinguishing the flame in your hand you looked over at him, placing a hand on his arm. "It's not up for negotiation." You could see him starting to soften, deep down he knew you and Steve were right, even if he didn't want to admit it.

Steve stood behind you, his protective nature taking over. You knew he'd protect you, he always had on missions, even when he hated you. "SHIELD. Hydra. It all goes."

Nick tore his gaze from you and Steve and looked over to Maria. She gave him a small nod. Leaning back in the chair that was far too small for his large body he took a deep breath. "I always said you were my best agent Y/N." You couldn't help but smile at the praise. "Go do what you do best." You gave him a nod and stood, the chair beneath you scraping at the floor as you did.

Steve placed the data drive in your hand. "What do we do with the files Y/N?" You knew he wasn't just referring to the ones you were about to release on Hydra. The small device in your hand suddenly felt like it contained all the secrets of the world. For you it basically did. You couldn't dwell on that just yet though. "We prepare for one big fall out." There was a possibility when all this was over it would be the end of the Avengers. Guilt consumed you, but there was no other way. To take down Hydra, their secrets needed to be exposed to the world.

"The files on that drive. They're not on the main server." Nick admitted, his eyes watching your every move.
It made sense as to why the drive was so important, why Hydra didn't want it falling into anyone else's hands. Perhaps there was hope yet. "You're sure?" Things hadn't gone well so far, you refused to think that they'd start now.
Nick looked at you with a nod. "As far as I know, you have the only copy. If they were on the main server, I would have seen them."

Placing the drive in your pocket, you looked at Steve. "That is something we can deal with later. Right now, we need to get you a suit."

Walking through the wooded area surrounding SHIELD headquarters, you could see the tall building off in the distance. Steve stood in a suit he'd managed to acquire from the museum, looking like he belonged back in the 40's. His shield sat attached to his hand as he looked over at you. "You ready?"

"I took on Surtur not that long ago. This is a walk in the park."

He knew you were deflecting, sure Surtur had been more of a fight, but this was more important. You both knew the risks if this went wrong.

Steve headed off on foot, knowing he had to distract Hydra while you made your way there. Walking through the trees you found the private helicopter that Nick had procured for you. Strapping yourself in, you flicked the switches, the blades whirring to life. Listening in on comms you waited for Steve to start his announcement to SHIELD. It wasn't long before you heard him.

"Attention all SHIELD agents." Bringing the helicopter into the air, you headed straight for the building knowing it would only take a matter of moments to get there. You had to time getting there just right so you made sure to listen to what Steve was saying. "This is Steve Rogers. You've heard a lot about me and Y/N over the last few days. Some of you were even ordered to hunt us down. I think it's time you know the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was, it's been taken over by Hydra." Right on time you landed on the roof of the building, knowing that Pierce would be in his office on the top floor. You could hear Steve carrying on with his speech, rallying the remaining SHIELD agents to your side.

Stepping out of the helicopter you walked in through the glass doors, glaring at Pierce who was waiting for you. A look of both shock and rage flooded his face. Being an older man it wasn't a good look on him. You stalked towards him. Trying not to let your emotions get the better of you, at least not yet. "Hey asshole, do you even know who I am?"

"Y/N Barnes, formally Stark. You've been a thorn in my side for years." How Nick had never seen he was a bad guy you couldn't quite understand. The way he spoke was clear enough for you that you could never trust this man. No one ever should, not that he'd be alive much longer for anyone else to make that mistake.

"Then you know you're not leaving here alive, right?" You couldn't help the smirk that flickered across your face as you imagined the breath leaving his body.

Pierce didn't quite have the emotional control that you did. Anger pouring out of him as he spat his words at you. "You need me to release the files."

Tilting your head you looked at him. "No I don't. I just need your eye actually."

"You're not a killer." He was smug, thinking he'd got the upper hand. Little did he know that's exactly what you had been for a number of years. You made a mental note to thank Nick for hiding your past from SHIELD. Thanks to the lack of information Pierce currently had on you, he'd made the dumb mistake of underestimating you.

You could feel the magic pouring through you as your eyes turned green. "Are you sure about that?" The fire within you poured over your entire body as you slipped Surtur's ring onto your finger. The shock and fear on Pierce's face made you smile as you formed a spear of fire in your hand, launching it straight at him. It burnt a hole in his chest, cooking him from the inside out.

As he fell to the floor you walked over to him, using your foot to position him on his back. "That's for Bucky you son of a bitch."
He didn't respond, with his last breath you heard him mutter. "Hail Hydra."

Nick and Steve walked into the room not long after. The chaos of the remaining Hydra agents fighting SHIELD could be heard from all around. Their eyes flicked to Pierce on the floor before Steve ran over to you. Stopping just before he got to you, letting you pull the flames back in. Once your eyes returned to their normal colour he placed a hand on your shoulder. "You okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine. Let's get this done and get home."
