You took a deep breath as you hovered outside the door. The golden markings across it giving you something to focus on. You knew it wasn't going to be easy, Thor had warned you how bad Loki had gotten. His anger was one thing you had rarely experienced, not in the way others had.

You put a shaking had on the door pushing it open, the groaning sound of the hinges couldn't hide your entrance.

Loki looked up from the book he was reading by the fire.
"Well well well if it isn't my doting wife." His voice dripped with venom as he glared at you.

It took everything within you not to recoil from his words.
"Loki, stop it." You refused to let him make you feel small as he walked towards you.

"Why are you here?" He sneered. "You think you can waltz back in here like nothing has happened?"

"And do you think I can't feel that illusion?" His magic was thick in the air, you'd felt it the second you walked through the door. "Enough."

A wash of green floated over the room. Your heart shattered as you took in the scene in front of you. Everything was destroyed, splinters of wood from the broken furniture littered the floor. The only thing that had remained untouched was the large bed. Yet throughout the carnage there was one thing that threatened to destroy you more than anything.

Loki sat leaning against the wall; his hair an unkept mess, clothes stained, bags under his eyes, he looked utterly defeated. This was your fault, your selfishness had done this to him.

"Is this what you wanted to see?" His voice was as broken as the man in front of you.

"Of course not." You managed to bite back through the self hatred. "I came to apologise Loki." You took a step towards him, only stopping when he glared at you. "I was hoping you'd give me a chance to explain."

"You've had a year to do that."

"It wasn't that simple and I did come back."

The look of surprise on his face told you what you'd wondered. "You really expect me to believe you?" He sneered, clearly not believing you.

"It's true. I came back two weeks after I left and you were gone."

"Two weeks?" Loki couldn't allow himself to believe it, that he'd gone all this time without you for nothing. If he let himself believe that then he'd have to find someone else to be angry at. "It matters not if you did. You left me again, so do me a favour and stay away."

His words hurt more than you ever thought possible. You knew talking to him was going to be difficult, but he wasn't listening to you and that was making things harder.

"Loki please..."

"GET OUT!" He roared, startling you.

You couldn't hold back the tears any longer, you'd lost him like you'd feared. Turning on your heel you fled from the room, your entire world crashing down around you. You knew by the look in Loki's eyes that you'd lost him to his anger.

The best you could hope for now was that Bucky would at least listen to you. If you lost him too you weren't sure if there was anything left for you to cling to. You'd slip away into grief and nothing would pull you back this time.

You were running through the long passageways of the palace when a hand on your arm stopped you.

Queen Frigga stopped you in your path. "Calm down my child, come and sit with me."

While you might not live on Asgard, there was no way you were going to disobey the Queen. The King maybe, but not the Queen.

She led you to a concrete bench, keeping your hand in hers. She knew what had you so emotional.
