Steve stands at the entrance to your room, unsure what to say to you but he knows he has to at least try. You look over to him before turning away, not in the mood for another argument. "Bucky's not here."
"It's..it's actually you I came to see." He stumbles over his words slightly. He knows you have no reason to listen to a word he has to say, but he hopes with all his heart that you will.
"If you're here to have a go at me about something. I'd highly recommend you fuck off, I'm not in the mood." You pull Loki's jumper tighter around you, savouring the scent.
"I just want to talk."
You look over at Steve who looks lost and defeated, you never thought about how being without his best friend would effect him. As much as you hated him, there was a part of you that wanted to hear what he had to say. "One wrong word and I won't be held accountable for my actions.""Fair enough." He pushes himself off the doorframe as he walks towards you. "Look, I know I've been a complete dick to you."
You snort, a dick was the polite way of putting it. "Language Captain."
He ignores your comment and carries on walking across the room. "There are some things I need to tell you. I know it won't make up for what I've said and done." You look up at him as he sits down on the bed next to you. "But we can't carry on like this if you're back for good.""Who says I'm staying?" It wasn't a complete lie, you had things to sort out with your record company and your tour was fast approaching.
He looks to you with a slight smile. "You left because of Buck. You won't leave again, not now." He notices the sudden shift in your attitude. Holding your hands close to you, feeling the heat of your magic edging to the surface. You close your eyes, counting to ten like Loki taught you.
Steve watches in awe as your hands glow blue for a moment before you're able to regain control. You turn to him, the soft smile you gave him earlier is gone. "Don't act like you know me Steve. You never took the time to do that. From day one you decided you didn't want me around."
He knew he'd deliberately kept you at a distance, but not because he didn't like you. It started as respect for Bucky, it soon developed into being easier to push you away than admit how he felt. His face drops, not sure if he should tell you the truth. He figures at this point he hasn't got much else to lose. "I'm in love with you Y/N."
You look over to him, shock written all over your face. You can't seem to find the words to say, of all the things you expected him to say, that wasn't it.
Steve interrupts your thoughts, wanting you to know the whole truth. "I have been for a long time."
You shake your head at him. "That doesn't excuse what you've done Steve." A thought pops into your head and you hope to god it's not true, you don't know what you'll do if it is. "Tell me the truth, the kiss with Bucky and Sharon. Did you plan it?"
Steve looks directly into your eyes he wants you to know that he is telling the truth. "No. I knew how much you loved him, I'd never do that to you."
You nod your head, believing every word. He looks away, something playing on his mind. You keep quiet, hoping he'll tell you without you prying into his mind. "I could've stopped it." He admits looking at you, gauging your reaction. "He said your name before he kissed her."You realise he's backing up Bucky's version of events, Bucky really did think she was you. You hold back the tear that's trying to fall, all the anger and the arguments had been for nothing. He messed up, but if he thought she was you, there wasn't really anything to be angry for. All the time you'd missed out on with Bucky, all the dates you hadn't been on. It felt like your heart was breaking all over again.
Steve watches you, not sure what else to say. You catch him off guard when you smile at him. "Thank you. For telling me the truth."
You both look over as the door swings open and Bucky walks in. He doesn't see Steve at first. "Tony's looking for you doll. Something he wants you to try out." He's blunt and you know it's because Loki isn't there. Ignoring his tone you stand up, placing a hand on Steve's shoulder. "We'll talk soon ok?" Steve nods at you as you walk over to Bucky.
You wrap your arms around him and kiss him, not caring that Steve is still in the room. He instantly relaxes into you, the stress melting away. You smile as you pull away.
"We're going out tonight." Bucky blurts out, more of a statement than a question. You kiss him on the cheek. "I look forward to it Wolf Man. See you later."
Bucky rolls his eyes at you and watches you walk away. The tension between Bucky and Steve could be cut with a knife, shaking his head Bucky opens a beer.
"Buck? Can we talk?" Steve asks, looking at the ground. He hated what had happened between them.
Taking a big gulp of his beer, Bucky looks over to him. "Which Steve am I talking to?" He throws back Steve's words from years ago at him. "My best friend from the 40's can stay. The jealous, judgemental prick that's been around lately can't."Steve nods his head in understanding. He knew he'd screwed up. "I'm sorry Buck, truly I am."
Bucky sits down on the sofa throwing his head back in frustration. It had been a long day, all he wanted was to take you out, have some fun and then bring you home and fuck you senseless.
"Get to the point Steve, I'm not in the mood.""I shouldn't of said what I did. I didn't understand it, I know that doesn't excuse it. I miss you pal."
Steve moves to sit near him, he doesn't risk looking at Bucky, not wanting to see the hurt he'd caused him.Bucky knew he was sorry, he knew Steve most probably regretted the words as soon as he said them. It didn't make it any easier though. He placed his hand on Steve's shoulder. "I'm with you to the end of the line."
It was all that needed saying between them, for now anyway. Steve nodded his head and left. He knew he had a lot of making up to do but at least he'd made a start. In Tony's workshop, you walked in to him trying to antagonise Bruce. "You're tiptoeing big man, you need to strut."
You roll your eyes at your brothers antics. "You wanted to see me Tony?"
He smiles at you and goes back to whatever it was he was working on. "Got something for you over there." He points over at some clothing on the table. You pick it up feeling the fabric, it's the same as the gloves he made you. You look at him confused.
"Less power dampening, more power distribution. The current in the fabric will send your power to the place you need it most. If you're fighting, it'll be your hands. If you're running it will help you run faster. You get the point. Oh and I upgraded the gloves for you, if you have them on, they'll absorb every spec of power that leaks out."
You look at him in disbelief.
"Why Tony?"He simply shrugs his shoulders. "I was bored."
You walk over to him and pull him into a hug. "Thank you." He pushes you off him, pretending that the hug didn't make him happy. "I believe you have a date to get ready for. Off you go."
