Disbelief crossed your face as you took in what Thor had told you. "I'm sorry? My idiot brother did what now?" Your eyebrows raised and your voice shifted up an octave. Thor placed his hand on your knee giving you a small smile.
"This is a good thing. Now that sceptre can never be used as a weapon again." He was trying his hardest to reassure you, and you could tell. Taking a deep breath you looked over at him, you could see he was trying to calm you down but your protectiveness for Loki and Bucky had overtaken every other feeling in your body. Shaking your head, you tried to calm yourself down, knowing it wasn't Thor you were angry at.
"How do we even know that we can trust this thing?"
Thor looked at you, happy that you were talking other than just reacting. He'd half expected you to run off and confront Tony straight away. He knew how hot headed you can be, and as much as he adored you for it, he didn't want you to fall out with Tony over this. "He can lift Mjölnir, that's not something we can just ignore."
You knew there was nothing you could do for now. So you admitted defeat. "Fine, but I still don't like it."
Thor let out a booming laugh, causing you to laugh along with him. The atmosphere between you changing as you listened to the crackling off the fire. You could feel Loki pushing his emotions to you, trying to keep you calm. Sure enough, when you looked up at the window you could see him stood there watching you. You knew you had the same magic as him, but being able to do what he could with it, wasn't something you were mastering any time soon so you didn't even try to send the feeling back yet.
Turning back to Thor, you saw him watching you with a guarded look across his face as he played with something in his pocket.
"That wasn't the only reason you came to see me was it?"
He pulls out a small ring from his pocket, rolling it between his hands. The metal was dull and jagged around the edges. He passes it to you as you look at him with confusion. "Father melted down Surtur's crown, that ring contains what was once his power. When you put it on, you'll have all his power combined with your own." He explains, watching you as you roll it between your fingers.
It was a few moments before you were able to look at him again, the power in the ring was calling out to you. You suddenly felt like Frodo with the ring of power. Shaking the thought away you looked at Thor who had a soft smile on his face. "Why would Odin give me this?"
"He's not a bad man, matchstick." Thor immediately came to his father's defence.
You rolled your eyes, placing the ring in your pocket. Why couldn't Thor see his father for who he truly was? A power hungry asshole, who cared about nothing but himself. Thor would never change your opinion on him and deep down he knew that. "He imprisoned Loki because he fell in love. So don't even try and convince me that he cares Thunder. He cares about what he can gain from me, nothing more."
"In his own way he does care. He'd like to see you again, to help you control your powers." Thor knew it was like fighting a losing battle, but he had to offer regardless.
Your spine straightened as you blurted out your response, almost without thinking. "No." You settled back into your chair, the idea of going back to Asgard had you feeling all kinds of wrong. "Loki can teach me."
Admitting defeat, Thor raised his hands in surrender. "As you wish." He nudged your shoulder with his. "Try not to be too harsh on your brother though."
You both laughed as you told him that wasn't something you could promise. The next hour passed by with fairly light hearted conversation. When you started struggling to keep your eyes open, you called it a night.
