I have just moved to South Korea from the US on a foreign exchange program. I am in my final year of high school. I am half American half Korean and I've always wanted to go to Korea where my mom is from. I have been there a couple of weeks and I don't know much Korean yet. I'm trying to learn though but it's not easy. My mom has taught me simple things. I have been sent to this private school which is quite posh and I'm struggling to fit in a bit and get to know people. Some students don't know a lot of English but they try to teach it. I am trying to learn Korean but I'm struggling. Languages have not been my strongest point. I love Korea though. It's a beautiful country and I can't wait to get to know it more. It's the start of my third week at school in Korea and hopefully this week will be better and I'll get to know people and make friends more. I've always been a bit shy in new places and around new people. It's just the way I am. I have lots of friends back in the US who I'm still keeping in touch with. I wake up in the morning get, ready and have breakfast in the dorm I'm staying in and get the bus to school. My first class of the day is Korean language which I don't like but I have to go. I arrive at school and go to class. I often get stares when I'm walking the corridors as people can tell I'm mixed. I sit down and wait for class to start. I felt like the teacher Mrs Kwon was watching me throughout. Like keeping her eye on me as if I've done something bad. She looks at me as I was about to leave class. There is a boy sat behind me called Song Minjae. "Y/ F/ N. Song Minjae. Can I have a minute please?" she said. She talks in Korean and Minjae translates. "Mrs Kwon thinks you need more help with Korean so she wants me to tutor you" Minjae said. "Okay sure. Yes I do need to get better" I reply. "I'd like to tutor you. It'll be fun. My English got better when I practiced. I've been learning English since I was young" he smiled. I smiled back. Minjae is very cute. I just had to say yes

Minjae has been teaching me Korean for the last few weeks now and I think it's going pretty well and I am picking up the Korean language more and understanding it all thanks to him. I'm learning more with Minjae than I have been with Mrs Kwon. She hasn't really taught me much. Minjae is a good and patient tutor and I feel like I owe him one eventually. We have become friends as well since he started tutoring me. He tutors me in the school library on break or lunch times. I am going this break time to see Minjae for tutoring. It's just for 15 minutes in our break. He's teaching me more phrases in Korean. I leave my second period of the day which was math and I go to the library to meet Minjae who was in history class. I find a seat in the library and wait for Minjae. I see him walk in a couple of minutes later. "Hi, Y/ N" he smiles. "Hey, Minjae" I smile. So he sits next to me and starts teaching me some things for 15 minutes till the bell goes. We look into each other's eyes and Minjae kept on shuffling a bit closer to me as he was tutoring me. I felt my heart flutter a bit. Minjae and I leave the library together. "Okay so I'll see you later, Y/ N" he smiles. "Yes you will" I reply. I go to my next class. A few hours later and it was the end of the day and I go to my locker from PE class. I walked past Minjae on my way past and he smiles at me. "Y/ N, have you got a minute" Minjae said. "Sure" I smile. "Well I like hanging out with you and tutoring you so I was wondering if you'd like to come to my church on Sunday morning for the service. It's really nice. I think you'd like it" Minjae said. "Yeah sure. I'm not really that religious but I'll come along and see" I reply. "Very good but don't feel like you have to just because I asked you" he said. "No it's fine. Don't be silly" I say. Me and Minjae have only known each other for a few weeks and he's already invited me to go to his church. I said yes though so I'll go with him

The same Sunday and I'm going to church with Minjae for the first time. I will feel nervous if he introduces me to his family and people at church and they assume we are dating. We are not yet but he must really like me if he's asked me to come to church. I hope he doesn't like me because I'm starting to feel that way about him. I have dressed up nice for church as I want to make a good impression of myself in front of Minjae and people there. He's never seen me out of school uniform since I've known him so I hope he still recognises me. I have done my hair and makeup too to look extra pretty and nice for this morning. Minjae said he will meet me outside church and we will walk in together. I get a lift when I was ready. I get dropped off outside the church and walk to the door and there I see Minjae waiting outside for me. "Morning, Y/ N. Wow! You look different" he said. "Hi, Minjae. Wow! You look so start" I smile. We smile and hug as we go into church. We didn't sit with his family. I guess I'll meet them at the  end. Looking forward to meeting his family actually. His mom, dad and sister and whoever else is there. The church service starts and we had to stand up. The service lasts about an hour and I enjoyed it. I might become religious now. Minjae takes me outside to where his family are. "Y/ N, my family. This is Y/ N, my friend from school. She is from America on an exchange program" I say. "Hi, nice to meet you, Y/ N" Minjae's mom said. "Hello, Y/ N" his dad said. His sister smiles too. An older couple then came over who I assume are Minjae's grandparents. "Halmoni and Haraboji" Minjae said. "You got a nice young lady. Your girlfriend?" his grandpa dives straight in. "She's just my friend. This is Y/ N. Y/ N, my grandparents" Minjae said. He felt embarrassed that his grandpa thought we were dating but I was talking to them. They were interested to know about the US as they have never been before. We walk out of church together with his family. "Y/ N, why don't you come over for lunch. I will be cooking when we get back. Just us" Minjae's mom said. "Okay sure. I would love to. Thank you" I reply. "You're welcome" she smiles. Minjae smiles too. I went to his house for the first time and it was really nice. Mrs Song made a delicious meal and I stayed a few hours. Minjae and I are getting closer. He even admitted that he liked me in front of his family. He said I will have to come to church again with him and over to his house. He said I'm welcome anytime

Minjae and I started dating not long after I met his family. I have been in Korea for 3 months now and I have 3 months left before my time is up. I really don't want to leave as I'm having so much fun and I've found my soulmate now. I never want to let him go but I think we will still continue to be boyfriend and girlfriend when I go back to the US. Although I do consider moving to Korea when I'm through school and if my parents can afford it. I don't know I'll have to see. I would love to though. Minjae and I like spending time in school and outside of school on weekends when we are not working. It's Sunday and we are spending time outside of school and going for a nice walk in the park which we are looking forward to. The park is one of our favourite places to go. Sometimes we go after school for a walk if we don't have anything else on after. I am walking to the park now as it's not too far from where I live. Can't wait to see Minjae and have a cute little walk and get some food together. I wait on a park bench for him and he arrives. I see Minjae arriving with a smile on his face and he always looks so cute. "Hello, beautiful girl" he said. "Hello, handsome boy" I smile. He smiles and gives me a kiss. Minjae holds my hand as we walk around the park together on this beautiful day. He kept on smiling at me and making my heart melt. We walked for a while and then lined up at the cafe for something to eat. Just a sandwich and a side. We get a table and then ordered what we wanted. We had milkshakes to be going on with. Minjae and I had delicious sandwiches and fries and salad on the side. Very good indeed. We then take another walk around the park to the kids play area. We watched some children play for a bit. "I'm so happy I found you, Y/ N. You make me very happy indeed" Minjae said. "You make me very happy too and I don't want to leave you or Korea in 3 months time" I say. "Babe, I don't know why you're thinking about that at the moment. Don't think about that. Still got lots of time left" Minjae said. "Yes we have" I smile. "Promise" he said. "Promise" I reply. We look at each other and pinky swear to each. I don't even want to think about the next 3 months flying by. I just want to think about spending time with Minjae. We are so glad to have found each other. We are soulmates
