enzo had gone out for a bit and may decide to call stefan. she didn't want them to end on bad terms if she died.
"may, are you okay?" stefan asked her.
"never better. i just... i wanted to call you to say i forgive you. i forgive you for leaving with valerie." may said.
stefan felt scared, he knew she didn't have much time left and he didn't want to lose her.
"may, where are you? i don't want you to forgive me if you don't mean it." stefan said making her lightly chuckle.
"i do forgive you. i'm at the house, i'm afraid i don't have a lot of time left." may said before she felt herself grow weak.
she dropped the phone out of her hand and she felt her eyes closing.
"may! may! answer me! may!" stefan shouted over the phone.
enzo heard stefan on the phone and he vamped over to may. he quickly grabbed a wash cloth and wiped it over her face.
"it won't be long now, darling. damon and rayna will take it from here. just... hang in there. carolines making you and bonnie her apparently famous "get well" soup." enzo said making may's eyes open.
"you might as well kill me now, then." may joked making enzo chuckle.
enzo couldn't believe despite everything, she was still her charming self.
caroline was with bonnie in the living room while damon and rayna started the spell.
damon came back after the spell was done, bonnie and may still hadn't woken up.
stefan quickly got back to the house and he went up to see may. he saw enzo holding her hand.
"what's happening?" stefan asked seeing may's eyes were still closed.
"nothing's happening, mate. that's the problem. may and bonnie won't wake up." enzo said looking come at may.
enzo learned from damon that the spell was going to make bonnie the next rayna. they thought bonnie didn't want to wake up because she didn't want to be the next hunter.
enzo knew that if bonnie didn't wake up, may wouldn't either.
caroline went up to see may and she grabbed her hand, going into her head.
may was sitting on the boarder of mystic falls. she looked beside her and saw caroline sitting beside her.
"caroline." may said with a bright smile before pulling her into a hug.
"when i heard about you and bonnie, i had to come." caroline said making may let out a sigh.
"bonnie hasn't woken up, has she? because you're in my head right now." may said with a sad smile.
"no, but we're gonna figure it out. she'll wake up and we'll get you both back." caroline said.
may could tell that she was holding something back from her.
"how bad is it, caroline? really?" may asked her.
"bonnie doesn't want to wake up because if she does, she might be the next hunter." caroline said making may nod her head.
"look, if anything happens to us, promise me you'll make up with stefan, okay? don't let an ugly past ruin a beautiful future." may said making caroline nod.
the two of them hugged and they felt tears fall down their faces before caroline slowly faded away.
caroline pulled her hand away from may and she saw enzo was waiting to go next.
he let out a sigh before grabbed her hand and closing his eyes.
may looked around and she saw she was back to her hometown, a place that reminded her of being human.
"i thought you'd like being here." enzo said making may run up to him, hugging him.
"thank you, i've always loved it here." may said as they pulled away.
"when you wake up, i'll take you anywhere you want." enzo said.
"maybe we should go to paris, i've never been." may said with a warm smile.
"then paris it is. because you will wake up." enzo said before may caressed his face.
"enzo... if i don't make it out of this-" may began but enzo cut her off.
"may, no." enzo said shaking his head.
"please, i just have to say this. before you came around i didn't really believe in true love. or love at all for that matter. but the moment that your fingers locked with mine, the moment you told me you loved me, the moment you kissed me in the rain, i knew it was real. it was so real. love is the reason we live. we live for love. we breathe for love. you are love. you are my reason for breathing." may said before enzo placed his lips on top of hers, kissing her.
"i didn't fall in love with you because i needed you or that i wanted someone to hold or that i needed you to make me feel loved. i fell in love with you because the moment i met you, everything stopped. the sounds around us were all muted and all i could hear was your voice and every time i stared into your eyes, i felt home and i had no other thought in the world but how do i make you happy for the rest of your life. because you're already doing so much for me and you didn't even know it. you will always have a place in my heart whether i like it or not. because i have never felt love like the way i felt it with you. even if it ends up breaking my heart." enzo said.
suddenly enzo was pulled out of her head and may shot up from the bed, her eyes were open.
"may?" enzo said looking at her with concerned eyes.
"enzo. is this real? am i alive?" may asked looking around her.
"this is real, love. you're alive." enzo said with a smile before pulling her into his arms.
"oh, my god." may said with a big smile on her face.
realization quickly hit may, if she was awake. that meant bonnie was, too.
"bonnie." may said looking at enzo with wide eyes.
