may had been cooped up in her room for hours. she was sitting on the floor was candles surrounding her. she was holding the necklace he got her in her hands.
she had her eyes closed and was trying to focus on finding him. she knew that her magic was coming through ever since she turned human again.
"enzo. enzo, please hear me. i'm not sure how to fully use my magic so you have to meet me halfway. please. a sign. anything." may said.
she lost concentration when her phone started ringing. when she picked it up, she saw damon was calling her.
"what?" may asked when she picked up.
"just calling to make sure you're okay." damon replied.
"i'm not, thanks. although you left me nine messages this morning, so what do you want?" may asked him.
"no. i don't want anything. i'm just... i'm here for you. unrelated, um, have you made any progress getting enzo out of hell?" damon asked her.
"is this some sort of joke?" may asked him.
"i'm just saying, cade got out. why shouldn't enzo?" damon explained.
"well, according to bonnie, cade used the maxwell bell. which is kind of a nonstarter now, unless you want to risk nuking mystic falls again. i'm not a practicing witch, damon." may told him.
"but you're also not a quitter, may." damon told her.
"whatever, just call me back when you're not-" may began but damon cut her off.
"woah, woah, n-n-no. wait, wait, wait. don't hang up. may, i'm sorry. i didn't mean to be rude. i just, um... i was just hoping you had a solve for enzo, because i might need a solution for someone else, too." damon explained to her.
"someone else? like who?" may asked him.
"let's just say i had a... semi-ghost situation. someone halfway in our world, who really wanted to stay here for real. this is all hypothetical, may, but what if there was a way to unlink bonnie's life from elena's? and what if the very... small price to pay was us freeing a soul from hell?" damon asked her.
"huh, if you're asking what i think you're asking, i'm gonna assume you already asked bonnie and she said no. if kai wants to stay here, i'm not helping him." may said before she hung up the phone.
-
may went to meet with cade after her call with damon. she tried to focus on him and she could see him in a cafe.
she drove over there and when she got inside, she saw cade was sitting down, drinking a coffee.
"how did i know to come here?" may asked him.
"simple. we share a kinship now. an awareness of each other. for someone new to the gift, you're quite powerful." cade told her.
"i respectfully disagree. i don't understand any of this, but i just have to know... how do i get enzo out of hell?" may asked him.
"why don't you ask him yourself?" cade said as he pointed to the seat in front of him.
may decided to sit down and hear what he would have to say.
"i really hope you don't plan on setting me on fire. i know that's sort of your thing." may said as he chuckled.
"that would be a poor way to start our lesson." cade replied.
"are you gonna teach me how to contact enzo?" may asked him.
"i'm going to give you an understanding of what you've become. you've had a powerful traumatic awakening, just as i did. my true self sprang forth at the moment of my death." cade explained.
"right, along with hell and eternal suffering." may added.
"i'm as much a part of my psychic dimension as it is of me. and so if you wish to locate enzo's soul, you must open your mind to me. together, we may contact him." cade said holding out his hands.
may took his hands and she closed her eyes.
"i'm ready." may told him.
"i want you to remember the moment of enzo's death. think not just of enzo... but of how it felt. to be betrayed by your friend. to lose your love, your happiness. think of enzo. think of him dying needlessly. think of his dreams, and of his happiness." cade told her.
may's mind played enzo's death back on a loop. she could remember the look on his face as he died, the look on stefan's face. how she felt seeing his heart being ripped out.
"what do you feel?" cade asked her.
"rage. anguish." may told him.
"embrace it. it is the source of your power." cade told her.
while her eyes remained closed, she could hear his voice call out to her.
"may." enzo called out.
"enzo." may whispered.
"focus. live in the trauma. call his name." cade told her.
"enzo. enzo." may kept calling out.
when she opened her eyes, she was back at his cabin. she looked around and when she heard his voice, she immediately smiled.
"may." enzo said walking out to see her.
may could see him, she wasn't sure how it was possible but she was with him.
"oh, my god." may said before running into his arms.
enzo hugged her and gave her a kiss, missing her more than she was missing him.
"i thought i'd never see you again, love." may said, looking into his eyes.
"you have to get away from cade. he's trying to find me through you. he wants to claim my soul for hell." enzo told her.
"but if you're not in hell, where are you?" may asked him.
"do not trust him." enzo told her.
may was pulled back and when she opened her eyes, cade was looking back at her.
"what did you see? was it enzo?" cade asked her.
"no, it wasn't." may lied.
"then why are you so upset?" cade asked her.
"maybe because i just had to relive the pain of losing him. thanks for the lesson." may said before she got up and walked out of the cafe.
