may finally got up and she found some tea in the house so she made herself a cup. while the kettle boiled, she swore she could hear enzo calling out to her.

"may. mabel wilkins. help me. may." enzo called out.

"enzo." may whispered but she knew she was losing her mind.

she got startled after hearing a knock at the door and when she opened it, she saw bonnie.

"bonnie?" may said as she walked into the house.

"may. caroline called me. she told me what happened. i'm sorry. she said you didn't want to talk to her, and... she's hoping maybe you'll... talk to me?" bonnie said as may walked over to hug her.

she couldn't talk to caroline about what happened. seeing that she was marrying stefan, she just felt caroline would never really understand.

bonnie and may took enzo's body to the salvatore family crypt. bonnie put flowers over him and she looked up at may.

"it's time. we have to return enzo to the earth. we have to say good bye." bonnie told her.

"i can't do that, bonnie. i don't think he wants me to. i still feel his presence. it's like he's calling out to me. or maybe i'm just a human who's losing her mind." may said before bonnie went to hold her hand.

"no, may. you're grieving." bonnie told her.

"i've felt grief more times than i can count. this, this isn't grief. this is different and if he's trying to reach out to me, there has to be some way to reach him." may said to her.

"the other side is gone. and i don't have my magic anymore. it's best not to mess with such things." bonnie replied.

"no, there must be a way. there must be a reason i can hear his voice, let this be the reason." may said.

-

bonnie wanted to give may some closure so she tried to do a seance. they joined hands and they both closed their eyes.

"enzo, we call on you. one who loves you is reaching out to you. if you are among us, please give us a sign. enzo, if you are there, we are here to listen." bonnie said.

they felt the wind pick up and suddenly bonnie pulled away from her and she blew out the candles.

"what's wrong?" may asked her.

"you were right, may. this is not grief. it's something different. i saw the moment of enzo's death. i felt his pain. i don't know how that's possible without my magic. i think you opened a door." bonnie explained to her.

"a door to where?" may asked her.

"to wherever enzo is. somewhere dark. filled with suffering and emptiness." bonnie said.

"is it hell?" may asked her.

"i don't know, but we need to close that door. we have to bury him." bonnie told her.

"bonnie, if enzo's in there and we bury him, he'll be trapped. we have to find a way to free him." may said.

"no, may. whatever darkness you reached into is reaching back for you." bonnie told her.

may looked over at enzo's corpse, she couldn't let him be buried.

"i'm not going to leave you like this. i'll find a way, i promise." may said as her ears started to ring.

she could hear enzo's voice again screaming her name, making her faint.

"may!" bonnie said running over to her side.

-

may woke up and she was hyperventilating but bonnie stayed by her side.

"stay with me, may!" bonnie said as she started calming down.

bonnie got up and grabbed a can of gasoline and lit a match, throwing it on enzo.

enzo's body began burning up and may quickly got up on her feet.

"no! enzo! no! enzo!" may said trying to fight bonnie's grip on her.

"may!" bonnie shouted before pulling may out.

"why would you do that?!" may shouted angrily.

"i had to! i had to, may. i had to destroy every part of him. it was the only way to break the connection-" bonnie began but may cut her off.

"he was trying to reach out to me!" may argued with tears in her eyes.

"no, may. he didn't open that door, you did. i'm not going to let you destroy yourself." bonnie told her.

"he's all alone in that darkness." may said.

"and he wouldn't want to drag you in with him. you know that. he loved you. he wouldn't want you to suffer. you have to let him go, may. you got to say goodbye." bonnie said as she hugged her.

may looked back at enzo's burning body and she couldn't stop the tears from falling down her face.

she didn't know how she opened that door but she knew that it was possible for her witch abilities to show up now that she was human again.

-

may walked into the house and she saw damon was in the living room with a drink in hand.

"have you been waiting up for someone?" may asked him.

"i was waiting up for you, actually." damon said which surprised may.

"i'm fine, damon. really." may said but damon didn't let her push him out.

"enzo was my friend. during all that time we were friends, i'd never seen him happier than when he was with you." damon said as may teared up.

"i just wish i hadn't taken the cure so soon and maybe then i would've been able to stop it." may said.

"hey, don't do that. even as a human, you managed to keep elena safe and for that, i am forever grateful." damon said.

before may could say anything else, she heard the door open. they turned their heads to see stefan walk in.

the second she saw him, she felt rage take over. she wanted to tear him to shreds.

damon looked at may and he could tell she was fuming. stefan made eye contact with may and he felt the guilt flooding in.

may didn't say a word, she didn't make eye contact with him, she just left the room and went up to her room.
