My birthday is coming soon, but a few things got me in a sad mood for it so... here's this.
No jokes for this one please cause I'm feeling irrelevantly sensitive.
[Third Person...]

You and Natasha had fallen asleep pretty late last night trying to finish a series we wanted to finish.

By the time you both actually went to bed, it was three in the morning. You woke up, first thing checking your phone to see... it's your birthday.

It got you a tad bit excited being this would be your first year with Natasha on your birthday. You were never one to be fully excited being you hated your life anyway. But Natasha made things so much better.

That was... when you expected her to remember.

You lightly jogged down the stairs excitedly to find no one. You checked the gym in the compound, not a person in sight. It was weird, eerie.

You decided to call Nat.

"Hey babe, what's up?" She answered as you heard gunshots in the background.

"Uh... nothing. Where are you?" You asked

"Last minute mission, I left a note for you on the night stand. I won't be back for a few nights, think you can hold up without me?" You could practically see the smirk on her face.

"Of course." You said now looking at the note.

"Alright, see you soon." She kissed the speaker before hanging up.

The note read:
Good morning, my love.
Won't be home for a few days, hold down the fort for me until I get back.
Wanda should be there if you need anything.
With all my love and attention.
Romanoff xx.

No happy birthday.
Nothing to mention it.
You felt your heart break slightly but decided to let it be.

Wanda remembered your birthday although, coming back to the compound with a cake for the two of you and candles to blow out.

You begged her not to say anything, in consideration for Natasha's possible guilt, and your embarrassment.

She agreed.

When Natasha did return from her mission she was greeted to no one, not like she usually was greeted. She was usually greeted with a big hug and kiss at the door, but today... nothing.

She looked confused as the rest of the Avengers piled into the compound. Natasha went off to find you.

"Baby..." she called out, but no response.

"Babe!" Again, nothing.

Finally she checked the bedroom and there you were sound asleep. She smiled as she made her way towards you and kissing your head before making her way back out towards the kitchen area.

"Ay, who bought a birthday cake?" Steve asked confused. Natasha was as well as she looked at the cake...

Happy Birthday y/n
Was written on the top, a few pieces cut from it, but still legible.

"It was y/n birthday? When?" Tony asked

Natasha racked her brain for how she could have forgot such a special important day. But nothing came to mind. She just... spaced. She hit herself on the head.

The forgetting of your birthday caused you to think of every single negative thought that forced itself into your brain. Your mind now invaded with bad thoughts as it sent you into a spiral. A low spiral.

You hadn't gotten out of bed. Natasha's heart physically breaking as she knew she was the reason for your sudden crash.

"Where is she now? Let's go tell her." Steve suggested, Natasha shook her head. Sighing.

"No- no. Leave her be for now, she's not gonna want to hear it from anyone right now... let alone me." She knew, the first year and she had already screwed up.

Wanda walked into the kitchen harshly knocking Nat over the head before grabbing a bottle of water and some grapes for you to eat.

"I deserved that." Natasha said rubbing her head guiltily.

"And much more, but y/n made me promise not to do or say anything." Wanda said, her accent thick.

"Didn't you basically break that promise from hitting Nat over the head?" Tony pointed out

"It was worth it." Wanda shrugged before turning around to head towards your room, where you laid in sorrow. As much as you felt childish for throwing a pity party for your girlfriend missing your birthday. It was reasonable.

With your condition, everything was meant to be completely spun out of control. No matter how little the problem. Everything was completely devastating to you, even if it was irrelevant.

You laid sad in your bed as Wanda came in. Natasha felt too guilty to go back into the room, Wanda decided to sleep in the bed with you to help you cope better.

Natasha spent the night out on the couch.

She knew she had fucked up, badly.
