Third Person...

[]

You come into the living area of the compound, just finished up with your second session of chemo and you are beyond exhausted.

No one in the compound knows you have cancer yet. You're hoping you can have the tumor diminish before ever needing to speak about it out loud.

But doctors are already speaking to you about surgery to remove your thyroid, and how the cancer as already spread to your lymph nodes and now lungs. You don't know how much longer you can keep this from everyone.

You don't feel comfortable speaking about this to anyone, really.

Well, all but one.

Natasha feels the safest

Natasha can't pin point why. The woman is scarce. She definitely can put the fear of god into anyone. But you find comfort in her. She radiates just a cold shoulder, but in her, you find warmth. And she has taken notice.

As you walk into the room, your eyes sunken in from not sleeping well at night. You couldn't help but sit right next to Natasha when all the other seats in the room were also open.

"Can I help you?" She asks not looking up from a magazine.

"No.." you ask in a questionable tone.

"Then why have you possibly decided to sit next to me when there are many other options in the room." She says coldly.

"I don't know." You say shrugging before using the rest of the couch to put your feet up, using your hands as a pillow as you laid beside her. You just wanted to lay down for a quick moment.

But that quick moment quickly turned into a very well earned nap.

Natasha put down her magazine to look at you with fake annoyance, not noticing you had fallen asleep.

Her heart skipped a beat.

She looked around at the other free couches with blankets on top of them but they all each had room and were far more comfier than the one Natasha was currently on. The only leather couch in the room.

Natasha thought about it for a moment before deciding to pick you up and place you on a more comfier couch. Now noticing how tired and worn down you looked.

She grabbed the softest blanket and placed it on your body before realizing. You always sat next to her, after a hard training day, on days when you looked like you may cry, dinners, loud nights when you were overstimulated. She felt as if she may be overthinking it.

But incase she wasn't she sat back down now across from your original places and gently placed your head onto her lap so it wasn't so cramped up as it had been before.

She pet your hair making you lean closer to her hand in your sleep.

She smiled, and her heart felt warm.

She never felt so wanted before.

When you finally woke up, which wasn't for a few hours. She had left the room. She waited all those hours with you. But the minute you began to stir she panicked and left as quietly as she could.

Later, she decided to go look for you. Knocking on the door of your room before hearing a soft 'come in' and twisting the door knob. She entered the room, doing a quick glance around. Noticing things others may not have.

Like the dark brown teddy bear on your bed, or the post it on the corner of your bed where no one can see that said N with a heart. She wanted to chuckle.

But then she seen the pile of pills beside your bed on the side where no one may walk.

She couldn't see the name of any, but knew they weren't just pills for sleeping. Quickly putting together everything, she sat down on your bed next to you.

"Are you sick, y/n?" She asked, wanting to get it over with.

"How-, why-..." you couldn't form words. You never wanted to seem like an attention seeker, and was working hard on your mental health to get rid of your ways of acting like a victim.

"You're paler than usual, your eyes are sunken in, your hair looks thinner... what's going on?" Natasha knew if you didn't trust her, you would never tell her. But she knew, somehow, you did.

"I am..." you sighed, it felt good telling the secret you've been holding onto since the doctors found the lump on your thyroid.

"What's going on?" She asks

"I have stage three Follicular Thyroid Cancer.. they found the lump on my thyroid about three months ago." Natasha's eyes softened.

"What are they doing to treat it?" She asks

"Chemotherapy to shrink the tumor on my lung but they think it's best if they take out my whole thyroid to be safe and the nodules on my lymph nodes." You say, your eyes welling with tears.

You haven't been able to speak with family about this. One sister is having marriage problems, the other had surgery, your brother who has a brain injury was just diagnosed with seizures. And your mother was going through it with money and her own possible precancerous cells. You couldn't give them something else to worry about.

"Does your family know?" Natasha asked staring straight into your eyes.

You shook your head as your lip trembled.

She pulled you in. Pushing your head into her chest as you sobbed in her arms.

"I don't know what to do" You sobbed uncontrollably

You were still going through your own heart break. Months before Natasha had - had her memory wiped when she was kidnapped by the Red Room. You felt lost. When Natasha woke up, she pushed you away.

You weren't the best girlfriend during the relationship either. But you loved her with everything. So when she pushed you away, you stayed close without pushing her boundaries. But you missed her with every fibre in your being.

It's been a year.

But still you hope. Although you see her moving on with others. Laughing at their jokes, smiling. You wish you could change it.

"We'll figure this out." She says "I'm here for you." She speaks again but it doesn't seem to help your sobbing. You only sob louder as you grip onto her, holding on for dear life. Afraid if you let her go she'll disappear.

Natasha just let you.

She held you close.

And then she began to hum a song.

Not just any song. Your song. The song you dedicated to eachother. Softly singing the words to you.

"I will never fall in love again until I found her... I said that I would never fall unless its you, I fall into. I was lost within the dark until I found her. I found you..."

"I found you..." she whispered quietly to herself you shut your eyes to her singing, quickly falling into slumber.
