He slumps right on top of her. Dead.
I realise that the rope is still around her neck and I rush to remove it and push him off her
"Thandi, Thandi... Thandiwe! wake up.... Please, you need to wake up" I put my palms on her cheeks praying that she responds "Thandi..."
She slowly opens her eyes and they dart around, probably trying to make sense of what just happened
When she left the house I panicked. Knowing that my dad had planned something sinister I went to check if Dean was around only to find that he wasnt. That's when I knew Thandi was indeed in trouble and I had to do something about it
Driving to her house, I only had one thought in mind. Despite everything that's happening with us. I couldn't let her die, she means so much to Melo and Gundo, I just had to do something to stop what my dad planned
When I pulled the trigger I felt numb, Not an ounce of guilt ran through my veins. I did what I had to do... It just had to be done. It was him or her... It just couldn't be her, I couldn't let it happen to her
"Hey, you're okay... You're fine" I help her get in a sitting position
She looks at a dead Dean then she looks back at me. Her eyes move down to the gun on my hands
"Dean..." her voice is hoarse and barely comes out as a whisper, she shuts her eyes for a bit and her hand goes around her badly bruised neck, she flinches from the pain "You saved me" she whispers again
"I'm very sorry Thandi, things should have never gotten this far" I say wallowing in my oen guilt and she looks at me with confusion then I remember that her guard is probably on his way here and I'm out of time
"Thandi I'm sorry to have to do this to you now, I know you confused but your guards can't find me here, I'll explain later "
"What? Why?"
"My dad... If he finds out I helped you... If he finds out I betrayed him" I stop and shake my head at the thought of my dad finding out, he will be livid that I went against him, I can't risk that
"Jerome is behind this?" She flinches from the pain again "So his last resort was to have me killed?"
"I'm so very sorry" I say before hearing someone shouting Thandi's name as they approach the room
"Give me the gun" She says
"What?"
"Give me the gun and find a spot to hide . Hurry before Marvin sees you" She says and I do as she says
I find a small corner to hide in with my heart beating so fast. Everything is just happening so fast. I just killed a man, I shot him three times... I just betrayed my father, something that he's unforgiving to... If he ever finds out then our relationship will be ruined, that much I know for sure... But still I know, if I had to do what I just did again, I'd do it
I couldn't let her die, I'd never be able to live with myself knowing I let Melo lose the only family he has left I may not be able to give him the love he deserves but given the chance, I'll do anything to protect his heart from such sorrow and loss, he wouldn't survive losing Thandi, she's like a mother to him and deep down I know, she doesn't deserve to die for being Gundo's love, she doesn't deserve any of the things my father and I have put her through.
THANDI
I look at the dead body besides me, I knew Dean never liked me. From the first time when he forced me to help Gundo to when I moved in the house... I never understood why but I guess it makes sense now
