17. Tête-à-Tête

Headed towards the office, with Anuj driving and Anupamaa seated beside him, there was this prevailing silence. None would say a word. Ten minutes elapsed and no words exchanged.

- I am sorryy Anupamaa.

She didn't reply.

- Vo mujhe aise tumse aise baat nahi karni chahiye thi.

- Koi baat nahi. (She said uninterestingly)

She might not be a lot angry still she felt bad that he lied to her to get off her and made her open the door in that half devavstated look instead of doing it himself. That was kinda embarassing for her coz she had already been caught by Malvika earlier in the day and after all the family drama everybody knew something happened at night if not everything and she was already not okay with it and then to top it all he just made her go to the door after talking so bluntly to her and almost ordering her into doing it.

- Naraaz ho...??

- Nahi..

- To..

She didn't reply.

He took the car aside and pressed the brakes. It came to a halt with a screeching sound reflective of the speed with which they were going.

- Listen Anupamaa I am sorry... I didn't mean to hurt you.

- Par phir bhi kiya na.

- Mujhe nahi pata tha tumhare mann me itna sab chal ra tha. Maine to socha bhi ni tha ki tum darwaaza kholne me itna embarass feel karogi.

- To sochna chahiye tha aur bataya tha maine par aap aapne mujse kis tarah se baat ki thi uss time... Bola tha maine... Ki mein aesi haalat me jaaungi to kaaka kya sochenge to aapne bola to band rehne do mat kholo aur pata ni kya kya...

- Par mujhe pata tha na koi ni tha vahan...

- Par mujhe to nahi pata tha ne ?  Vahan koi aur bhi ho sakta tha.

- Hmm... Listen I am sorryyy... Next time se aisa nai hoga... Sorry uss time ekdum se ghadi par nazar padi aur time dekha to laga late na ho jaaye isiliye mazaak kiya.

- Aap mujhe seedhe seedhe bhi to bol sakte the na ki abhi nai abhi ophhice ke liye der ho ri hai. Mein kya koi jabardasti karti hoon aapke saath?

He took a deep breath and with his finger just corrected his spectacles to its right place. He placed his elbow on the seat he was sitting on and rested his head on his palm.

- Hmmm... To kar liya karo... Maine koi mana kiya hai kya?

- Anooojjj... Yehi .. yehiii poblem hei aapki... Har waqt bas majjaak... Jo baat kar re hein uspar phocus kariye ne...

He gestured zipping up his mouth.

- Sorry. Tum jo bhi kehna chahti ho kah do but please aise gussa mat raho. Sab kuch bardaasht kar sakta hoon tumhaari naraazgi nahi.

- Aapko pata hai jab subah aese Mukku aa gayi thi aur mujhe aese parde ke peeche dekh liya tha to mujhe kitna ajeeb laga tha? Ek pal ke liye mujhe pata bhi ni tha ki uske saamne jaaungi to kaise nazrein mila paaungi usse. Bahut saram mesoos hui thi uss waqt. Or pata hai saamne doodhwaala bhi tha... Jaane kya sochta hoga... Pata nahi main theek lag ri thi ya kaisi... Hey kanhajiii...

- Anu vo doodhwaale ke liye main sorryy... Really sorry... Mujhe sochna chahiye tha. Aur rahi baat Mukku ki to vo jaanti hai ki main tumse pyaar karta hoon aur tum bhi karti ho iska bhi idea hai use aur thoda time saath me spend kar bhi liya to vo ye samjh sakti hai.

- Thoda time nahi Anoooj! Poori raat thi beech me! Aur use meri pheelings ka sayad ho pata par ye pata to ni h ne ki meine aapko bata diya h ye. Kya socha hoga usne mere baare me ki aaj hi bataaya aur aaj hi... Chheee....
