"Your turn to pick a movie sweetheart. I'm gonna get the popcorn ready," Buddy declared, giving Sonya a kiss on the cheek. The female pug wagged her curly tail and yipped, "Don't take too long." Laughing softly as he hopped off the couch, the dachshund promised, "I won't."

Tossing the bag into the microwave, Buddy shut the door and pressed the button. Not long after, the kernels began popping. The dachshund took this opportunity to grab a bowl to put the popcorn in. Now all he had to do was wait. And as he waited, his mind got to thinking.

It had been a month and a half since Max and Gidget had their wonderful litter of five. Though he was happy for the couple, Buddy couldn't help but feel a little envious towards them and some of his other friends. It seemed like everyone was settling down and having their own families. The dachshund at least had a loving girlfriend. But he couldn't help but wish they had their own child to look after.

"Honey, that popcorn is going to burn if you don't pay attention," Sonya's voice piped up, snapping Buddy out of his thoughts. Sitting on the floor below, the pug pointed at the microwave. Remembering the popcorn, the dachshund quickly opened the door and grabbed the bag inside. Climbing up onto the counter, Sonya nuzzled Buddy as she commented, "I was afraid you were out here having an asthma attack. What's wrong?"

"Nothing really. Just got lost in my thoughts," Buddy reassured Sonya, returning the favor and nuzzling her back. The pug raised an eyebrow at him. She knew that there was more. Sighing heavily, Buddy mumbled, "I can't help but feel jealous as I watch everyone else go off and have families of their own. I wish we could make a family together but we can't."

"Ah, I see," Sonya murmured, nodding her head in understanding. Leaning her head against Buddy's shoulder, she placed her paw over the dachshund's as she went on, "We can still have a family if you would like. Granted, I know we'll never have kids of our own. But adopting a kid is just as good as having a biological child, right?"

"Right," Buddy remarked with a quiet chuckle. Nuzzling Sonya's cheek, the dachshund asked, "Would you be okay with adopting a child?" Licking his nose, Sonya wagged her tail and replied, "Of course silly. Are you?" Hugging her, Buddy answered, "Absolutely."
