After several attempts to persuade Max and at least one attempt to stop Snowball from using a wooden spoon as a club, the party was canceled. It was very late and many of the pets were asking themselves how they were going to get home in time. All Max could think of at the moment was where Gidget could be. He feared something terribly had fallen upon the fluffy white Pomeranian.
Coming up beside his brother and sitting down next to him, Duke looked down at Max. The terrier's ears drooped and his back was hunched. It was clear to see that he was depressed. "I know for sure that Gidget is perfectly safe," the giant mutt tried to sound reassuring, smiling and wagging his tail for extra emphasis. Duke stopped though after receiving a melancholy glance from Max. Getting up, Duke walked away as he muttered under his breath to himself, "Nice going Duke."
