Lifting his head up from where he was laying on the floor, Duke tilted his head to the side. He heard another yowl filled with pain. Putting two and two together, the large mutt murmured, "Oh no, it's too soon." Duke was on his paws in seconds. Jumping through the open window, he practically leaped up the fire escape and arrived outside of Chloe's apartment.
Chloe was laying in her bed on her side. Her eyes were wide open with fear and pain. She let out another yowl of agony. Duke could also smell some blood. Trying not to panic for Chloe's sake, the giant dog approached the pregnant tabby cat and whispered reassuringly, "Don't worry, you and your kittens will make it through this..."
