"Okay everyone, stay close so we can see you!" Max called after his kids. The puppies were already bounding across the meadow the family found. They might've heard their dad, they might've not. Who knows? Max sighed heavily when he realized that. Laughing, Gidget added, "Remember to have fun!"
"Okay Mom!" Sammy responded, sticking his head up from the hole he was digging. He went right back to digging. Nearby, his older brother Talon was walking around the meadow with his nose to the ground. The sisters Cleo and Snowy were resting in the shade of a maple tree, the eldest reading a book. The oldest child Luke was nowhere to be seen. Horrified, Max asked, "Gidget, where's Luke?!"
"Here I am! Look, I found a stick!" Luke yipped happily. The fluffy puppy was very pleased with himself as he showed off his treasure, a broken stick. He was also covered in thick brown mud. Neither of his parents could see his white patches of fur. "Luke why..." Max groaned, facepawing. Giggling, Luke answered, "Cuz it's fun!"
"Don't worry, it'll clean off easy Maxie, you'll see," Gidget pointed out, watching Luke as he trotted off to show his prize to his younger siblings. Sitting down, Max murmured, "Yeah, I guess you're right. Perhaps we can stop by the pond before we leave." Smiling, Gidget leaned against the Jack Russell terrier as she remarked, "Just what I was thinking."
"We're here!" Snowball's voice shouted, causing both dogs to jump.
