He insisted to catch up the tutoring lesson that we... well somehow skipped yesterday. "Why did you try to help me? I already said I don't want your-" He interrupted me. "I'm not pitying you. It was stupid what she said. Also, I wanted her to stop trying to get at me, but now because of you she thinks we're only friends and will continue." He sort of complained as if it was my fault his ex wouldn't stop annoying.
"Well, why should I be called your girlfriend only so she'll leave you alone? Also, the whole class would've heard this, I don't wanna be known as that," I rejected. "As what? My girlfriend?" His eyes scanned my face. "No, a slut." He shut his mouth close as if it wasn't what he had been expecting me to say. His jaw tensed, or maybe it just seemed like it.
"What do you mean by that?" This was the first serious reaction I've ever received of him. "In my opinion, I never understood why all girls felt like they'd get a better image being with you. At first people might be all around them, until behind their back they start talking and give them disgusting names. I don't wanna be in that position. I'm unnoticeable and I enjoy that, but I guess you won't understand, since you literally crave attention." I continued my task.
"I wouldn't let them call you that." I Iifted my head to look at him. "Did you say that to every other girl as well," I asked. "No, I don't care what other people might think of those who know what they're risking being with me. But I'm the one who approached you, it was my decision. The first person ever that I chose myself. You told me to have an own opinion. So in order to that, I must take care of you." I didn't quite know what to think of that statement. It sounded like he chose me while shopping now being careful that I won't break. Like a...thing?
Or maybe he just didn't know how to put words of his true emotions into a proper sentence.
I slowly nodded, not going further into this topic at all. He seemed irritated today, also quiet. I just know something's up, he didn't even attempt to flirt yet, which is not a common thing.
But I told him he can talk to me if he wants to.
_
"Did you understand?" He sniffed his nose, placing the pen down. He seemed impatient, like today should end as soon as possible.
"Yes, thank you," I answered. He nodded, putting on a thin smile as he took his bag. "Minho," I called out his name. "Yeah." He shortly stopped his action. "Wait here shortly, okay?" I left the room without further words, leaving him clueless.
After a few minutes, I came back inside with the famous noodle dish that he seemed to enjoy last time. "Today, you shared your food with me, so I guess it's my time to treat you back. Also, in regard to helping me so much with school." He hesitantly took it. "Why would you thank me?" He asked. "Huh? Why not?" I frowned. "I dunno, just doesn't seem like you," he suspected me as he sat down on my bed with it. "Yeah make yourself comfortable," I mumbled as I actually expected him to sit at my desk.
While eating, he spoke up. "The call I received when you were playing basketball...It was about my grandma, she had passed away." I faced him without hiding my shocked expression. I did not expect this to be the reason for his mood. Not that I didn't imagine him being upset about such thing, but his image made me think that him, actually being natural close with someone, was impossible.
"I was quite close with her. Not just that, but she helped us a lot. Always made sure to cook properly for me or give us a lot of money when there had been a time. My parents are mad that we weren't the heirs of her property. We have enough, but it's just different with them. My mom pressures me on doing more for school to get smarter and insists me to quit every activity outside of school." His decent way of talking made me listen up way more than usual. He sounded irritated by the situation. Almost like he did not know how to react to it, or how to treat himself afterwards. He opens up, but I think this time he meant it for real. I felt bad, I didn't know he could have a strong bond with someone, but he seemed to have with his grandma. Him having to quit everything would also mean that he won't be able to show up here anymore. I don't know if I was sad about it or not. I guess something would be missing somehow.
