The night is dark and full of terrors. At least that was what was said to scare small children. And to some extent this talk had an effect on them. They remained quiet and polite.
There were also some children who were ready to test this theory, but even the few brave ones who went through with their plan were relatively few.
But the people of Wendel didn't think so. For them, this statement was more of a compliment than a scare story.
This was also the case for the new residents of the town of Wendel.
And Adrian.
On that bloody night after the council meeting, Adrian had decided to walk to the gates.
As it had just started raining outside, the boy pulls his hood over his head and walks quietly towards the gates, where he notices dark red water flowing towards the city streets.
To investigate further, he walks up to one of the guards and asks, "Excuse me, but can you tell me why the water is so dark red all of a sudden? Did something happen here?'
"Who's asking?" the guard asks, glancing at Adrian.
"Who wants to know?" Adrian asks, crossing his arms over his chest.
"We have specific orders from the queen to check the background of people who walk around the city limits," says one of the green-eyed guards. Stepping in front of the taller guard.
"Oh so. Would it be possible for me to check some papers?"
"Regarding what?" asks the tall man suspiciously.
"I need to check some data for Kro. It concerns the Queen's alliance with France," says Adrian.
"Why didn't you talk to Electra?" asks the guard.
"She sent me here," Adrian lies in an indifferent voice.
"So you claim that Electra and Kro sent you here without informing us. Sounds a bit suspicious, don't you think , Mr. Blanchet?" the man asks as he walks to the door.
Adrian sighs to himself and says, "There are few people Lily trusts. We both know that. That..."
"Let's say we gave you a chance to look up this information... how do you think it would show us?" the man asks, slamming the door.
"Let's make sure you tell her nothing," Adrian snaps bitterly.
"I guess you don't understand that we are at war Mr. Blanchet," the man answers him from behind the table, adjusting his coat buttons.
But then Adrian notices a black package covered in blood on the table and quietly walks over to it and opens it, spotting a little girl with a deep head wound whispering, "Valerie!", then turning to the guards and asking, "How did she get here?"
"Ah, one of the townspeople found him on a side street, near Than and Shadow's base," answers the guard sitting behind the desk.
"She's injured!" Adrian yells angrily.
"Oh, come on!" the boy is greeted.
"If she stays here like this, she could die," Adrian replies, trying to regain control.
The younger guard nods softly and says, "Look, we'd like to help you. But this is Lily's kingdom. Her word is the supreme power of this empire."
Adrian glances at the boy holding the little girl and says, "You're right," whips the boy with all his might, and mutters, "But this girl's life is bigger than any empire."
The boy falls down and Adrian lifts the crying child under his cape and hurries away with him until he reaches the corner of the house where no one can see him and places the crying child on his cape and mutters, "Don't worry. You'll be fine. You have my word."
At this, the child starts to cry harder, and Adrian presses a small white towel over her mouth and nose with a soother, starting to clean the wound on the girl's forehead and sew it up quietly.
His hands are shaking as he finally sews up the girl's wound and puts a small patch on it.
Then she hugs the baby to her chest and runs to Scale's base and knocks on the door.
