I wish it was him

Taehyun's first date was...awkward. He tried going into it with an open mind but it was doomed from the start. He didnt really know or care about his date, he had no idea how to skate and he had no idea what to talk about. Everything just felt off and he was starting to realize why. He realized he had more in common with his room mates than he thought.

Hyuka had the exact opposite experience. It went better than he could have ever hoped for. Conversation came easy. They were comfortable around each other. She laughed at all of his terrible jokes and held his hand when they walked to the theater. He pulled a fake yawn then wrapped his arm around her and she happily leaned into him.

At the end of the evening, he walked her home then kissed her hand. She blushed and promised to text him later.

Yeonjun called him when Hyuka texted his date was over. Kai insisted he go back to sleep since it was 2am in Seoul but he refused to until he heard everything. His best friend was growing up.

Beomgyu and Soobin also were waiting on the couch to hear how Taehyun's date went. They asked "how did it go?!"

"Eh..." Taehyun started scratching the back of his head. He sat down on the floor with his back facing the TV. "Can I ask you guys something? You need to promise you wont make fun of me."

The couple sat up straight and leaned forward. Beomgyu turned the TV off and they promised to not make fun of him.

"I dont really know if I even like this person but when I think about them it makes me happy and I was just wondering how you guys felt when you first saw each other."

Beomgyu very bluntly said "we almost killed each other."

Soobin started chuckling to himself at the memory. "Yeah we did. Wait why would we make fun of you for asking that?"

"Well... I think I like someone Ive never met before. I just wanted to know if that was even possible. Love at first sight."

In unison the couple shouted "oh my god who?!"

"Tell me first?"

Soobin looks over to Beomgyu then back at Taehyun. "I'll tell it. He's too dramatic when he tells the story."

"How am I dramatic? You showed up with a fucking DRAGON Soobin! A dragon! And expected me to just understand! I thought you wanted to kill me! Or burn my house down!"

"Beomgyu! Let me talk! Unless you would like to tell the story."

"I would love to!"

Beomgyu started to talk but Soobin cut him off. "I said I was going to tell it!"

"Then why did you ask me if I wanted to?!"

"I wasnt being serious!"

They started arguing with each other, ignoring Taehyun entirely. He got up to grab himself a snack from the fridge. This argument was going to last at least another 5 minutes based on previous experience.

Beomgyu finally noticed Taehyun was no longer across from them then smacked Soobin's arm. "See look what you did! I couldve been done with my story by now but no! Its your fault!"

"MY FAULT?"

Taehyun finished off his sandwich and grabbed a bag of chips. He wondered if all couples fought this much when they got older. He took his chips back to his spot on the floor and crunched as loudly as he could. It began to annoy the couple who looked at him in disgust. Taehyun enlarged his big eyes and innocently said "oh. Sorry. Didnt mean to annoy you. Now can I please hear the story?"

Beomgyu dramatically sighed then motioned for Soobin to tell it. His boyfriend drove him crazy in every single way possible.

Soobin started. "So I told you my mom, me and Sara landed here 3 years ago right? Well when we landed Beomgyu wasnt home. We thought Sara brought us to an empty place. We sort of broke in..."

Beomgyu sneered "Sort of?"

His boyfriend ignored him. "The cabin didnt have nearly as many things in it as it does now. It did look pretty abandoned, like someone only came here in the summer or something. We took Sara out for an exploratory flight then came back to see Beomgyu pointing a shot gun at us. Sara was ready to set him on fire before my mother stopped both of them from doing things theyd regret."

Taehyun asked "what did she say?"

"She told Sara to stand down then told Beomgyu we weren't going to hurt him. It took us promising him financial security for him to come around. So yeah, it was not love at first sight. It was 'give him money so he would let us stay'."

Beomgyu smirked "ha ha yeah... I know youre going to ask so I'll tell you. I started liking him on our first flight alone together. There's just something about racing the stars that's so ethereal. A shooting star flew across the sky and I turned to see it. Soobin wished that he could kiss me and the rest is history."

The couple kissed each other then turned back to Taehyun. Soobin impatiently asked who his crush was but Taehyun went to leave. Beomgyu blocked him in on the left, Soobin on the right. Taehyun started protesting but the couple kept pestering him about it.

The 12 year old yelled "FINE! I'LL TELL YOU! But you promised not to make fun of me remember?"

"We promise!" said the couple with their right hand in the air.

"I like Kai."

Beomgyu asked "My Kai? As in... my best friend Kai?"

Taehyun shyly nodded. "I dont even know if I actually like him but all I know is during my date, I wished it was him instead."

Before either of them could say anything, the 12 year old left to go to his room. He felt ridiculous admitting that out loud. How stupid could he be? He has never even met Kai. They were probably in the living room making fun of him. He took a cold shower then downed a sleeping pill. Anything to dift away for the night.

The couple in the living room was not making fun of him. They started planning on figuring out a way for them to meet. Dominican Republic was too small for Sara and Kai to be in. Mexico was a possibility but they had no idea where Hyuka would be staying. New York was the safest bet. Kai, the baby dragon, would have his invisibility by the end of the school year. The dragons could stay in the woods between 4 different states nearby. Plenty of hunting ground too with the ocean.

"We should go for Hyuka's birthday!" said Beomgyu in a hushed whisper.

"We need to tell him first though. If we dont, he will never have time for us."

Beomgyu agreed. They decided to go to sleep because they had school the next day. He couldnt wait to call his best friend to tell him the news.

Hyuka spent the rest of the night doing his homework while on the phone with his band. School was ending soon and the boys had so much they still wanted to do together before summer. They got bummed out when Hyuka said he wouldnt have as much time for them when Yeonjun moved in. He on the other hand, couldnt wait.

Yeonjun's room in the luxury condo was already decorated with his favorite things. There was a small calendar hanging on the wall, counting down the days he would move in. Every morning before school, Hyuka went into the room to cross a day off. It became an exciting tradition.

Wonyoung texted him back like she said she would. She asked what they should do next time. He got excited knowing there would be a next time. They called each other and Hyuka split his brain between doing homework, texting his friends and talking to his girlfriend.

Beomgyu got impatient trying to sleep and called Hyuka instead.

Kai looked at his phone and fat fingered the screen. He accidentally hung up on both people who called him. He called his girlfriend back and apologized. Beomgyu could wait until tomorrow.

Beomgyu got offended but he wasnt surprised. He figured Hyuka was sleeping and his call woke him up. Soobin rolled over and wrapped his arms around his boyfriend. Beomgyu got pulled into his chest. The warmth made him fall asleep.

Wonyoung told him she had to go to bed. Hyuka wanted to ask her to the dance again but remembered Yuna at the last minute. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be. They hung up and Kai finally finished his homework before bed. His band reminded him about the Yuna's game tomorrow. He tried backing out but got bullied into going. A girl's volleyball game was not something he was going to miss in a few months.
