Hyuka's 13th birthday

Yeonjun spent the last week carefully planning out Hyuka's 13th birthday.

It started with swallowing his pride and asking Beomgyu to be available to call at 7pm their time. Hyuka hadnt heard the other's voices in almost a year now and Yeonjun knew he would appreciate it. He was going to shell out $20 just to make sure the international call was stable enough to video chat.

Breakfast would start with a big stack of pancakes that Soobin gave Yeonjun the recipe for. The mixing and measuring wasnt the hard part. Soobin's pancakes always looked golden brown. Yeonjun's pancakes were either pale or black. He went through an entire thing of batter before the figured out that bubbles meant it was time to flip, not a specific time.

Once he mastered the pancakes, the next phase of Hyuka's birthday was cage diving with sharks again. They had so much fun last time and now it was actually the season for it.

Afterwards, Yeonjun made reservations to their favorite restaurant specializing in jibaritos and a centuries old coquito recipe. The first time they went, Yeonjun ordered it as a joke since they knew he wasnt old enough to drink alcohol. He got served it anyways so Hyuka tried next. Turns out no one cared about their age as long as they were paying.

The next stop would be mini golfing and seeing how long they could play before they got kicked out. His backup plan was to take Hyuka dancing in the market when they street performers tended to play.

Hyuka's birthday would end with calling the Minnesotans at dinner and presenting the gifts they sent over days ago.

He never had to make Hyuka's birthday a big deal but he always did because it was fun for him. Spoiling his best friend genuinely gave him joy.

Yeonjun ran over to Hyuka's bedroom after the pancakes were done and opened the door. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY HYUKA! WAKE UP PLEASE! I HAVE PANCAKES MR. 13 YEAR OLD!"

The smell of pancakes with butter, chocolate chips and whipped cream flooded his senses. He rubbed his eyes and laughed as Yeonjun began to sing the birthday song to him. With classic Yeonjun style, he started doing some improv dance while singing to make Hyuka laugh more.

The older sat on the birthday boy's bed and handed him his present. It was just a small white envelope.

Hyuka fed him some of his pancakes as he opened the gift. "Yeonjun! Were going cage diving again?!"

"Hell yeah! I remember how much you loved it last time!"

The birthday boy wrapped his arms around his best friend. "I love you Yeonjun."

"I love you too. I'll let you finish eating then we can go okay?"

Once the older left, Hyuka quickly did his morning routine and got changed into a swim shirt and swim trunks. He couldnt wait to be back in the water again. It felt as natural as being on land.

He walked to the front door to see Yeonjun waiting for him. "Ready to go?"

"Yes Junnie!"

"Arent you a bit old to be calling me that now?"

"I can call you grandpa if youd prefer that instead." Hyuka ran towards the car after saying that. Yeonjun chased him in and ruffled his hair as a punishment. "YEONJUN!" His hair was now a bundled mess.

On the way over, Yeonjun told him to hold still so he could fix his hair again. It was getting long so he tied it in a small ponytail. "There. Now it wont bother you as much in the water."

They started talking about what kind of sea creatures theyd see today. Sharks obviously but maybe some stingrays or turtles would be cool like last time. One of the stingrays got so close last time that Hyuka was able to feel it's back with his hand.
