Taehyun straightened his collar out again. He took a step forward. His nerves were on edge at the idea of sitting through an entire dinner with the Huenings. When he was unpacking, he could just hide in a room with a bunch of boxes. Small talk was just that. Small. Now he actually had to engage in conversation with his potential future in laws. He didn't get far before Mr. Huening picked him up in a bear hug. He boosted "my future son! hello again!"
"...hi Mr. Huening..." Taehyun wasn't expecting anything that was happening right now.
Hyuka ran to hug his mother. "Hi mom!"
"My baby! I can't believe you're 16!"
Taehyun and Hyuka swapped parents. The older shyly hugged Mrs. Huening. "Hi again..."
Mrs. Huening pulled away to look at her son's boyfriend again. "You don't need to be nervous sweetheart! You got my son to stay. That's nothing short of a miracle!"
"I- I didn't do anything... he makes me really happy. I love him so much."
Mrs. Huening hooked her arm around Taehyuns'. They began the short walk to the dining room table. "You guys are so cute together. Do you know what Soobin is cooking? I always thought he was a phenomenal chef."
"A summer Thanksgiving dinner I think."
Hyuka looked over to see his boyfriend and his mom smiling together. His heart soared with joy. His attentioned turned back to his father. "Alright. Honest opinion of him dad. Give it to me."
"He's bad for you. Terrible. Hate him. You couldn't have picked worse." Mr. Huening started to aggressively laugh. "I'm sorry. I couldn't even get through that! We love him because you do. That's all that matters."
Hyuka couldn't have been more proud as he sat down next to his boyfriend. He felt Taehyun squeeze his thigh to release some anxiety. He whispered "I told you they'd love you."
This time Taehyun actually believed it.
Beomgyu and Yeonjun sat down across from the couple while the Huenings helped Soobin serve.
A large stuffed capon was placed into the middle. Rosemary stuffing was falling out of the butt of the bird. The skin glistened golden brown. A large bowl of mashed potatoes was placed on the end. Baked mac and cheese was laid in front of Yeonjun while dish of buttermilk biscuits went by Hyuka. The last thing to go on was roasted asparagus. Taehyun's mouth watered just by looking at it.
Soobin sat down and proudly looked at a days worth of hard work. He turned to look at the people sitting at the table next. "I just want to say happy birthday to Hyuka. I also want to say that I can't wait until I get to marry my fiance! I don't know when we're all going to be together again after the wedding, but I'm honored we can do it now."
Yeonjun looked at him funny. "Soobin are you crying?"
"NO!" He quickly swallowed every single tear then cleared his throat. His glass of fake wine went into air as he made a toast. "To Hyuka. To my fiance. To my little brother. To my friend. And to the two people I see as my adoptive parents. I love you all. To us!"
They all cheered "TO US!"
During dinner, Beomgyu saw Stella fly in from the window. He nudged Yeonjun who looked up to see the same thing. The little silver dragon was in plain sight. If the Huenings looked up, they would see her.
Kai landed and tried to use his snoot to push his sister away. Stella began whining. She really didn't like that. Her eyes locked onto Yeonjun. That caused her excitement to be borderline uncontrollable. She skipping towards the window while emitting happy, high pitched, roars.
