Night on the beach

Yeonjun twirled a pen in his finger tips out of boredom. His spanish was still terrible so he was struggling with a workbook until Hyuka was done with school. He impatiently said "we've only been here a month and a half and youve almost finished a semester's worth of work. Take a break Kai!"

Without looking up from his laptop, Hyuka replied "in a minute."

The door bell rang. Yeonjun groaned as he stood up to answer the door. Hyuka laughed and call him old which earned him a pen thrown at his face.

Yeonjun returned and threw Taehyun's letter onto the laptop. "Gonna take a break from school now?"

Hyuka closed the laptop. He carefully opened the envelope so as to not damage the letter inside. He flipped it upside down and out came a piece of paper and a selfie of Taehyun. The 13 year old was still as cute as he remembered him to be.

Yeonjun sat down next to Hyuka as they read the letter together.

"Dear Hyuka,

I loved the song! That was the best birthday gift I have ever recieved. Thank you so much! Thank Yeonjun for me too. Both of your voices are incredible."

Hyuka could feel Yeonjun smile as he rested his head on his shoulder.

"Look, Im not great at writing stuff but if I ever get to see you in person, I want to show you something. It's hard to describe. More of a see-it-to-believe-it kind of thing but it'll be worth the wait.

You're worth the wait. Id wait forever for you. Talk to you soon.

-Taehyun"

Yeonjun gently grabbed the letter out of Hyuka's hands to make sure he was reading it correctly. "Kai you have to tell him not to wait for you. That isn't fair to him. I mean do you actually want to move back there?"

Hyuka sighed. "No... he could come here! Or California! I know California is expensive but it's possible. Soobin and Beomgyu dont need him right? And..."

The older kept listening to his best friend try to convince himself that it could somehow work without them moving back to the north. Every excuse he heard leave Kai's mouth, he saw in his facial expressions, his brain thinking of why it wouldnt work. When Hyuka ran out of possibilities, Yeonjun asked "you really like him huh? This isnt just a crush to you is it?"

"No. Its not just a crush..."

Yeonjun attacked Hyuka into a tight hug. "Awe my little baby is in love! Baby's first love! I was joking before but wow Kai! Youre really in love!"

Hyuka managed to wiggle away from him to grab his laptop again. Yeonjun took it away and threw it on top of the couch. "As your best friend, I can tell when you need to take a break from school. Kai, you need a break. Wanna go surfing again? Or we can go hit up one of the resorts! Veronica told me theyre having a midnight yoga class by the pool! Or we can go to a club!"

"Well..." the younger contemplated. He had done a lot more work than he really needed to. School could wait. "How about a club, then the pool side yoga, then midnight surfing? The waves are supposed to be huge tonight with the moon!"

"You got it!" Yeonjun called the driver who took them into Punta Cana. The two club hopped along the beach and met a lot of tourists like themselves.

A particularly memorable couple were in their 50s, from Amsterdam, told the boys they were adorable together. Hyuka started protesting that they weren't dating but Yeonjun thought it was more fun to joke about it. "Come on baby dont be shy. You'll have to excuse my boyfriend, we just started going out. He says I embarass him."

"You do embarass me!" whined Hyuka. He realized he made it worse for himself so he could either be miserable or have fun and play along. He chose to play along because he knew Yeonjun would freak out.

Yeonjun boasted to the older couple, that his boyfriend was such an amazing singer and thats how they fell in love. Hyuka decided to hold Yeonjun's hand and go "I knew it would make you fall for me baby." He leaned in to kiss the older and started laughing when Yeonjun pulled away.

Kai told the older couple they had a yoga class to get to and walked off.

Yeonjun ran after him after smacking his ass. "Youre lucky Taehyun didnt see that."

"Taehyun wouldve kissed me back."

"Oh yeah?" Yeonjun stopped in his tracks and smirked. "Come on then. What are you waiting for baby?" He leaned in and inched closer and closer.

Hyuka froze. It wasnt funny now that it was being done to him. Yeonjun kept leaning. Hyuka turned to kiss his cheek at the last second. They laughed at each other and kept walking to their yoga class.

Veronica, the pool instructor, greeted them then pointed to 2 empty mats in the back. The session started with simple breathing excersises. Hyuka made the mistake of opening his left eye to see if Yeonjun was taking it seriously. Yeonjun was doing the same thing. The boys had to suppress their giggles to not disturb the more serious participants.

The actual stretching portion, the boys took seriously. If they were going to surf, they had to loosen their bodies. Yeonjun kept groaning every time they changed positions. Hyuka was joked that the older was an old man before but now he was starting to believe it. The class wasnt hard either. It was a moderate yoga class and Yeonjun was an immaculate dancer. Hyuka didnt understand how the crane pose put such a strain on his body, that he had to make some kind of noise.

Yeonjun looked over, sensing the side eye from the younger and mouthed "what?"

Hyuka put a finger to his lips and said "shh".

Like a mature 16 year old, Yeonjun stuck his tounge out at his best friend.

The class ended and the boys took off to the nearby rental stand. Hyuka clasped the attendants hand and got pulled into a quick hug. "Hola Cesar!"

"Kai! Aye! Cómo estás my friend?!" Cesar turned to his left. "And you... you are Yeonjun si?"

Yeonjun awkwardly nodded. "Si. Mucho gusto.. Cesar? Cesar!"

Cesar laughed. "Aye! You are funny! So Kai! My friend! Uno o dos?"

Hyuka responded "dos por favor."

Cesar handed the boys two surf boards.

"Cuánto cuesta para uno amigo?"

Cesar laughed again. "For you my friend! Free! For him!" he pointed to Yeonjun, "100 dollars."

Yeonjun's face read offended which made Cesar laugh even louder. His laugh almost resembled Kais'. No wonder they got along. Cesar stopped laughing and said "joking! You are friend too Yeonjun. Learn spanish my friend. You are here for 1 year yes?"

"Si..."

"Have Kai teach you! Spanish is good. Spoken all around the world. I learn english for my job. You learn spanish to get better job si?"

Yeonjun took more offense to that even though Cesar didnt mean anything by it. "I know english, dutch, french and korean."

Hyuka stepped in. "Yeonjun! He isnt calling you dumb! We are going to be here for a year. Plus, my spanish got us free surf boards all night."

"Sorry..."

Hyuka cheerily said "I'll teach him!" to Cesar. "Thank you for the boards!"

The boys waved as they ran down the sand, into the water. The waves were really rolling in today. Yeonjun was in the middle of showing off a hand stand until he noticed himself start to lose his balance. Hyuka laughed so hard he lost his own.

They stayed in the ocean until the sun started to rise. At the first light, Hyuka made his way back to shore with Yeonjun closely behind.

The older looked around and realized they were by Playa Blanca. He offered to call their driver so they could go back to return the boards. Hyuka said "wait. We havent watched the sunrise since New York. Want to?"

Yeonjun set his board down by his side. Hyuka sat next to him and they watched the sun, rise over the water's horizon to begin a new day.
