In the next year of the Dominican Republic, Kai and Yeonjun had all the fun they could. They dedicated an entire 5 months to just doing online schooling so they could spent the next 7 at the beach.

The Huenings were busy trying to find another condo and get their documents completed. As much as they loved their last condo, they sold it since none of them thought they were going back. It was hard to find a decent place with 4 bedrooms in New York City. Well, it was hard because the Huening's standards were incredibly high. Priority was a place over looking central park.

After month of their real estate agent searching, the family plus Yeonjun, flew out to view the three condos that looked the most promising. Their favorite was in the upper west side. A little further from the park yes, but the space was bigger and it was cheaper per square foot compared to the other two.

Yeonjun already claimed his bedroom. Hyuka and him fought over it but the younger lost.

Neither of the boys were thrilled about going back to an actual school again but they didnt have a choice. Hyuka found excitement in seeing his band. He hoped Seungmin was still there. Last time they talked, he remembered him mentioning he might be moving to Connecticut to go to an even more expensive private school. What is a band without their lead singer?

Yeonjun asked "are we still doing the sunrise thing in New York?"

"I mean I want to. Not in the winter though."

"Sweet. And god no. Not in the winter."

"We can go to cafe to watch it..."

"Are there any even open that early?"

Hyuka thought of the little italian one in Manhattan. "There is one."

"Okay. We can go there in the winter."

Taehyun made a couple more friends at school. He felt bad he barely had time for them due to his extra classes. His friends told him he was crazy for stressing himself out but Taehyun didnt care. It was for Hyuka and that's all that mattered.

He got promoted from dish washer to server when he turned 14. The tips became his spending money and the rest of his paychecks went into his account. He actually had quite a bit saved up now since the older two still didnt let him contribute to the house.

80% of the savings would go towards paying for college if he was unable to get a full ride scholarship somewhere. If he could, it would go towards a car. The other 20% would go towards spoiling his boyfriend.

When he found out the exact dates Hyuka was going to be in New York, he promised himself he would go this time with the couple. No way was he going to pass up another opportunity to see his now boyfriend.

They wrote each other letters about their lives. Taehyun had a seperate collection of the selfies Kai sent in his nightstand. One of them was a photo of him and Yeonjun holding surfboards. Hyuka grew even taller. He was now up to Yeonjun's ear.

Kai was now a fully grown dragon. Everyone in the house was happy his puberty stage was finally over. They didnt know how much longer they could make excuses for his temper tantrums.

The dragon was slightly smaller than his mother by about 5 feet. Still a very impressive size though. That's when Taehyun learned the males are smaller than the females. A fact he found quite fascinating.

Kai became a bit more independent. He began flying around the country with his mom and discovering his own favorite hunting grounds. By complete accident, he started a massive wildfire in California when he was trying to get a prize bear.

Taehyun grounded him for a week after that. Sara made sure he didnt leave the state. The black dragon learned his lesson.

His chipper attitude towards Taehyun remained the same when he saw the 14 year old. He loved his rider. Saw him like a tiny ball of fluff that he always wanted to protect.

They went flying less frequently due to Taehyun's schedule and Kai's newfound independence. It became so bad the 14 year old questioned if his dragon would come home. After waiting for 2 sleepless nights, his baby came back to him. He ran up to his dragon in the rain storm and wrapped his arms around the base of Kai's neck.

Kai was confused by the sadness but squished his face against Taehyun's back to hug him. Tae pulled away and lightly smacked his snoot. "Dont you ever leave me like that again!"

The dragon enlarged his purple eyes and titled his head in confusion.

Taehyun yelled "I thought you werent coming back Kai! I thought you left me forever!"

The dragon sloppily licked his tears up. It made Taehyun laugh. "Im going to go riding with you more now okay? You wanna go tonight?"

Kai hopped up and down. The ground vibrated every time the dragon landed. They flew once a week since then.

Soobin and Beomgyu's routine didnt change much. Go to school, go to work, do homework, repeat. Now that they knew Kai was going to New York again, they planned another trip with Yeonjun. It was going to be a complete surprise for Hyuka.

Beomgyu and Yeonjun came to a consensus that Hyuka could stay with them for a week when they moved back to Minnesota, on the condition that Yeonjun could visit the house whenever he wanted. Soobin made Beomgyu agree to that last part. If it was up to Beomgyu, it would be a 'Yeonjun free' zone.

The couple also started prepping for college. Taking the SAT, the ACT, filling out applications and touring schools.

Everyone was now in their sophmore going on junior year of high school. Taehyun really did accomplish what he set out to do, graduate the same year as Hyuka. He didnt want to apply to colleges until he knew where his boyfriend wanted to go. There was also the large dragon he had to factor in.

Taehyun also woke up early every morning to work out. If he was going to see Hyuka for the first time, he wanted to make sure he looked his best. His muscles became firmer. The baby fat in his face began to disappear. He was no longer the adorable little boy who came to the couple that winter night. He was shaping up to be a man.

Yeonjun heard Kai's voice continue to drop over the next year they spent together on the beach. He hated how quickly his best friend was growing. He could already hear the insults about how short he was. Being called old and short was going to suck.

Hyuka sat with Yeonjun on the beach, under the stars. They went to a more local one so they didn't have to hear the parties going on at the resorts. It was their last night in the island.

Yeonjun reminisced "I had so much fun here."

Hyuka nestled his toes into the sand as he rested his head on his best friend's shoulder. "I wish we didnt have to leave."

They listened to the soft crash of waves against the shore. Yeonjun stated "you liked New York though. It's the only place Ive ever seen you sad to leave."

"It doesnt have this." Hyuka pointed to the ocean and the vast beach. He pointed to his phone and indicated the weather. Lastly he pointed to the surfboards lying on the sand next to them.

"Just a couple more years right?" Yeonjun asked. "Till were in California? This will come back! We will get our associates at the U of M, then transfer over when youre 18, to Stanford."

"Can we surf one last time? You know... before we can't anymore?"

"Sure." Yeonjun helped Hyuka to his feet. "Let's go."
