Night Rider- Tyunning

Big dipper

Taehyun lied about his break being over. He actually had 20 more minutes. When Hyuka texted him his address, he didnt know how to feel. Pride kept him from texting back right away when every part of his body wanted to.

The address was saved into his phone just in case. He googled where it was. Google maps displayed a grand gated house near the capitol building. Photos of guards outside the house made him slightly concerned for Hyuka's safety. Hopefully the Huening's status as foreign diplomat americans, would make them less likely targets.

He remembered Beomgyu telling him that Hyuka stopped talking to people after he moved. Except, of course, for his best friends. And here he was, making a plan, an effort, to continue talking to Taehyun.

Soobin called him 8 minutes before his break ended. "Hey Soobin!"

"Hi Taehyunnie! Hows it going over there?! Did you get all the pictures from the museums?!"

"Havent had time to look at them but yes I did! I have a-"

"Taehyun we miss you! I wish you were here with us! We have had so much so far. Yeonjun and Beomgyu actually kind of get along now. Sara has been terrorizing random fish in the ocean. An orca with a giant chunk missing, washed up on a beach in North Carolina. I think Sara did that. Did you hear about that? We bought you some souvenirs too!"

Soobin kept talking. Taehyun tried to look for an opening but he didnt want to ruin the older's excitement. Beomgyu interjected every once in a while with his own comments. Soobin finally finished talking with 3 minutes left on his break. Taehyun asked "does Hyuka usually write letters to people when he moves countries?"

Beomgyu curiously replied "not really. Why?"

"He texted me his address and promised to write a letter to me when he moved. He said he didnt want to lose touch."

The couple gushed and said "AWE!"

Beomgyu responded "that is a first. He never sent me any letters..."

Taehyun could hear Soobin say "shut up he only sent you 3 different gifts while he was in Spain." That made him laugh.

Annie was rounding the corner which meant his break was over. "I have to go. Break is over. Ill see you guys in a few days!"

The 12 year old went back to work. The monotony of doing dishes, didnt help him keep his mind off of his crush. He kept wondering, hoping that Hyuka would keep his word. It was still several months away. Taehyun suspected they were going to lose touch when Hyuka started school and that he would end up forgetting the whole letter thing.

School for him started in 3 weeks. After work, he went into town to buy all of his school supplies. The administration was transferring him up a grade level because he tested out of all of his other classes last semester.

No one his age would be in his classes anymore. He hated the idea of school even worse than he previously did before. It wasnt the studying, it was the social aspect.

Taehyun dropped his supplies off in his bedroom then took Kai back into town so he could buy some food. The meals at the diner were free and tasty but he only worked in the mornings. The leftovers in the fridge for dinner were running low.

Soobin's money was still available. He felt bad for using it to buy cheap groceries but he had to. All of his earnings went towards school supplies. Being paid bi-weekly didnt help.

One day, he was going to pay Soobin back. It was only fair because he had a job now. The older would refuse to take it so the plan was to leave it in his dresser drawer or give it to him as a birthday present.

An assorted pack of juice boxes were on sale so Taehyun grabbed 3 of them. A couple of lunchables went into the cart as well as bread, mayo, lettuce, sliced Wisconsin cheddar and turkey. Easy dinners for a kid who has no idea how to cook.

The groceries went into the pouch clipped to Kai and they flew home. Bringing his belongings to back alleys and roofs was something he used to. Kai was growing more every day. It was getting harder to find places for them to land. Thankfully, open space in a small town was easy to come by.

Taehyun decided to go into a clearing in the woods. He grabbed a bundle of dry wood and piled it as high as his arms would allow. Next, a bucket of water was used to make a large ring a foot from the  pile. Finally, he grabbed as many stones as he could from the river and placed them in his water ring.

On command, Kai lit the bundle of wood on fire. Flames danced 8 feet high in the air. They settled down to 5 after some of the bottom pieces in the pile fell down.

Kai tried to bite some of the flames. Taehyun laughed at the dragon's reactions whenever he got chunks of wood in his mouth. Kai spit them back out and watched the saliva evaporate in the fire. He continued entertaining himself like this as his rider watched.

The dragon stopped playing his little game and curled himself around Taehyun. The rider saw his dragon's beautiful purple eyes start to slowly close. He leaned back and gazed up at the stars. They couldnt sleep out here but for a moment, he debated on it. The warmth of the fire and the warmth of his dragon felt so comfortable.

He looked at his phone and realized he hadnt texted Hyuka back. Taehyun opted to call him instead. If he was going to leave him, he wanted to hear his voice as much as possible before that happened.

Hyuka answered "Taehyun? You called! I didnt think you were going to!"

Taehyun heard a door shut on the other line with laughter in the distance. He assumed Hyuka just went into a different room. "I didnt interrupt anything did I?"

"No! Beomgyu, Soobin, me and Yeonjun were just on top of the roof looking at the stars."

"Im looking at them now."

"Really?! Okay do you see the big dipper?"

Taehyun searched the sky. He smiled when he found it. "Yeah I found it."

"We're looking at the same thing right now! See? We're not that far away."

The 12 year old in the woods, found a new appreciation for the big dipper. It was a reminder that Hyuka was there. "You're right. We're not. Again, I'm sorry I couldn't be there with you guys. I wanna meet you so badly."

"I wanna meet you too! I thought today was going to suck but its not so bad anymore."

"Why did you think it would suck?"

"I broke up with my girlfriend."

"Oh!" Taehyun realized how excited that sounded. He changed his tone to sound more sympathetic. "Oh... Im so sorry. Are you okay?"

"Im okay. It sucked but I didnt like her anymore."

"How come? She's pretty. Beomgyu showed me a picture of her."

"She's not my type I guess."

"Hyuka..." Taehyun's chest swelled up if that meant what he thought it meant. He was terrified of being wrong.

"Yeah? Oh wait. Hold on a second. Beomgyu keeps yelling at me."

Taehyun waited for what felt like an eternity. He could hear Beomgyu yelling with Soobin laughing in the background. Yeonjun and Hyuka were having a seperate conversation. Hyuka laughed again which made Tae instinctively smile.

Hyuka responded "I have to go. Im so sorry. I dont have much longer with your roommates. Have fun with them when they get back there!"

"Wait! Text me? Or call me tomorrow? Please?"

"Of course I will cutie!" Hyuka hung up. Taehyun threw his head back against his dragon and grinned at the stars. He wondered if Hyuka was looking at them right now.

He was.
