Beomgyu yelled at 4:00 in the morning, "TAEHYUN! GET UP! IT'S YOUR TURN TO SPEND TIME WITH SARA!"
The almost 16 year old grumbled as he rolled out of bed. He landed face first onto the floor. Ever since Sara's pregnancy has advanced, she's become a bit needy. Kai has purposely been taking his time to hunt to get away from her. Taehyun opted to take extra shifts at his job because he thought he was being clever. Beomgyu wasn't about to let him off that easy. Every other day, they took turns waking up before school, to spend some time with her. Today was Taehyun's turn.
He got dressed and put on his thick winter jacket. The snow was up to his knees as he trudged through the shallow path to the cave. It was not a short walk. Luckily there wasn't any wind. Kai stopped just before the entrance of the cave. He tried to nudge Taehyun backwards with his snoot.
"Ugh. Kai, let me get this over with please."
The dragon nudged Taehyun backwards again. He managed to get him five feet back towards the house but the teenager insisted on doing this. If he didn't, he would never hear the end of it from Beomgyu. Defeated, Kai stepped aside to let his owner go into what he was trying to save him from.
Taehyun walked in to see a large pile of dragon vomit against the cave wall. It was a horrible mixture of rotting flesh and powerful stomach acid. The stench was so strong, it burned his nostrils and made his eyes water. He walked out and gagged.
Kai picked him up and placed him a couple feet from the cave. He had an 'I told you so' look on his face.
Taehyun apologized for not taking his warning seriously. He hugged his dragon to make him feel better. There was a happy growl in his ear which meant he was forgiven. He gazed into those purple eyes and said "do you remember Kai? My boyfriend from California?"
The dragon pulled away and nodded.
"You remind me of him sometimes. I love you both. Did you like him?"
The dragon hopped up and down. A small puff of fire shot into the air. Taehyun watched the smoke get sucked up by the evergreen trees. "I'm glad you liked him. How do you feel about traveling the world with him?"
Kai roared loudly enough to disturb his mother. Sara roared even louder back in frustration. The noise didn't help her mental state as she puked up more of her dinner last night. Kai whimpered and backed off.
Taehyun began to pet his belly. "Don't worry. She should be giving birth soon. Then after you'll have a little sibling! Then after that, we can go anywhere we want with my boyfriend! I call him Hyuka though since you have the same names. So now you know that Hyuka is really Kai!" He looked at his watch and realized if he walked home now, he would still have time to eat breakfast.
Kai had other plans. He threw his rider up on to his back and flew him to school. They arrived three hours early on the school's roof. Taehyun accepted he wasn't having breakfast today so he decided to do something else. "This is a dumb question but have you ever built a snowman?" Kai shook his head no. "Of course not. I'll show you!"
Taehyun began rolling a ball of snow until it was a decent size. While he was pushing the growing snowball, he yelled "do it like this!" The dragon looked at him with curiosity then used his nose to start his own. When Kai got his first ball of snow, he chomped a bite out of it. Snowflakes covered his snoot. He shook them off and they hit Taehyun in the face. "Hey! Make another one so I can stack mine on top!"
Kai obeyed. The teenager placed his neatly rolled stack of snow on top of the giant creation his dragon managed. "We need two small sticks and five rocks now."
Taehyun rolled another small ball for the head of the snowman while Kai went to find the items. The creation ended up being as tall as his chin. The sticks were added as arms then the rocks were lined vertically as buttons. It looked kinda cute. He insisted on doing three more. When they were done, Kai flew them off of the roof so they could admire their project from below. He snapped a photo then sent it to Hyuka. It was 4am in California. He wanted that to be the first thing he saw when he woke up. The caption was "your legend lives on."
