Homecoming dance

It didnt take long to figure out Zach's intentions weren't pure. The way he wrapped his arm around Taehyun's waist, the way he touched his hand and the way he whispered in his ear made the poor kid extremely uncomfortable.

He did his best to ignore and avoid Zach when he could. Thankfully, the older moved on to someone else. Taehyun decided he would rather have no friends than someone like that.

A couple people in Zach's friend group hung around though. They found the younger fascinating and treated him like a human being instead of a piece of meat. One of them, named Jaywon, even acknowledged how shitty of a person Zach is and apologized on his behalf.

They invited him to the homecoming dance. Taehyun felt insecure going without a date but Jaywon assured him it wasnt a big deal.

Soobin was more than happy to take him suit shopping. They tried on a bunch of rentals until Tae found one he was satisfied with. It was just a simple black and white suit but he opted to go without a tie.

Jaywon picked him up in his jeep and drove him to the school. "Damn you live far."

"Yeah, I actually like it better this way."

"Seems peaceful. So, you ready to meet the rest of the gang?"

"Sure."

They pulled up to the school and walked into the gym. Jaywon introduced him to some of his friends. He put his arm around a girl named Danielle and said she was his girlfriend. They all said hi to Tae and began asking about his life.

He told stories that people might find interesting and then mentioned he personally knows Hyuka. That drew in more attention. People asked about their friendship and how they met. That led to him showing the photo of Hyuka with Charlie Puth. Danielle exclaimed "oh yeah! I saw that on his instagram! You guys must be close huh? He doesnt text anyone at this school! Besides Beomgyu and Soobin of course."

The conversation segwayed into living with the couple and how that was. It somehow made it's way back to Hyuka.

Taehyun remembered all of the messages that he found his first day of school to him. He forgot how loved Hyuka was before he left for New York. Who could blame them? No one came close to him in Tae's eyes and he hadnt even met him yet.

He asked to hear stories about him when they werent dancing. Taehyun couldnt dance for shit but that's what made it funnier. Jaywon gave him a friend group to sit with at lunch. He no longer had to be the kid who sat at a table alone.

Danielle made sure they got a group photo together. She told Tae to send it to Hyuka then offered to take a lot of pictures of just him. He got shy doing all of the poses she asked for. Lia insisted he looked great in all of them. The girls helped him edit his photos then watched him send his favorites to Hyuka.

Before he left with Soobin and Beomgyu, he got all of their numbers and an invitation to Ryan's birthday party.

The whole flight back, Tae kept checking his phone to see if Hyuka responded, when he wasnt discussing his night with the couple.

Hyuka saw the photos and responded "I wish I was with you 😔" Taehyun looked so good in his suit. The crush was there but was slowly fading on his end. Distance, lack of time and never actually having met Taehyun was insuring their relationship to be more of a friendship. Not romantic.

He really did wish he was with him though. There wasnt a doubt in his mind they would get along if they ever met. Maybe they would be a great couple if it ever got to that point but it wouldnt. That would require moving back to a state he hated.

Hyuka's homecoming was a lot of fun knowing there wasnt any pressure to have romantic gestures involved. He picked Yuna up, just like last year and presented her with a blue dyed rose. The corsage was a matching blue rose with babys breath flowers on the ends. "For you. I remembered how much you love this color."
