~Aubree

“Aubs!” Freya yelled from across the room, shaking her arms.

I smiled.

“I am so sorry we're late,” she apologized with both Brooklyn and Edward glued to her as always; Ed on her arm and Brooke in her baby sling.

Soon that will be me and my baby.

“The baby barfed all over me just as we got here. We had to go back to the car and change.”

I pushed myself up and out of the chair I was seated in. Her arms spread wide and we had a big hug that sandwiched the peacefully sleeping Brooklyn and my huge bump between us.

“Sweet Brookie, hope she feels better” I smoothed my hand over the baby's head of soft fine hair.

“She's fine, just eating too fast, little stinker. For a little fella who didn't like to eat at first, she's pretty greedy now,” Freya giggled.

“I'll say,” Edward chimed in with an adoring gaze before sweeping me into a hug. “Nice to see you not via FaceTime, Aubs.”

I chuckled.

“You too, Eddie Poo” I teased.

Freya and Edward... along with Dove were a few of the friends I grew up with here in Virginia. We went to preschool together, middle school, and high school together. College separated us. Freya and Edward got married two years ago in Bali and it was a fantastic wedding. They recently came back to town to spend Thanksgiving with their families and Edward gave me a call.

“She's getting so big. She was such a little nugget before” Ed smiled.

Brooklyn had grown a lot since being born prematurely.

“She's grown like six feet since Wednesday.”

I chuckled.

“Not that much. But I bet she's gonna be as tall as her father one day,” Freya flashed a fawning glance at Edward and my stomach oddly rolled a bit.

“Sit, sit,” I said and smiled instead.

They sank into the seats opposite me.

“So, how have you been since the last time we spoke?” Edward asked.

“We spoke last night, Ed.”

He shrugged.

“So? You're lucky I'm asking.”

I shook my head.

“Have you spoken to Beck?” Freya asked.

I shook my head.

“He hasn't called.”

“Since...?”

“Since I got here, Frey” I rolled my eyes a bit.

“Well, to be fair and in his defense, Aubree, you didn't exactly tell him you were leaving New York and coming here.”

Freya and I shot him a look and he held his hands up in surrender.

“Forgive and pretend I didn't just say that.”

“Well I think not telling him you're coming to your parent's is reason enough for him to not call and check up on you for weeks” Freya shook her head, standing up to gingerly bounce Brooklyn in the sling.

And his explanation is going to be as shitty as always.

I sighed.

“Yeah well, he wasn't around much during my sister's pregnancy with Roman so. And although I'm not expecting much from him, it'd be nice to know he's trying for the baby and me.”
