“Good morning Gramps!” Roman chirped ahead of me as he strolled into the kitchen.

“Breanna, gimme a hand would you?” my mother called out from the front door.

“Yeah sure” I replied and helped her out with the groceries.

This early?

“Mom, why do you need all these eggs?”

“Just take them to the kitchen first, please?”

“Okay,” I just said and carried the crate away.

“Here, lemme.”

“Thanks, Daddy” I smiled at him.

“Did you sleep well?”

“Like a baby” Roman chipped in as he helped my mother bring in the bags of flour.

“Mom, why all this stuff? Are you throwing a party?”

“No.”

“So then?”

“I'm stocking for Thanksgiving. You know the whole family's going to be here for Thanksgiving dinner.”

I flicked my eyes back and forth before sharing a look with my dad.

“Mom... Thanksgiving is an entire month and one week away.”

“The earlier, the better. And besides, I'm just stocking up.”

Oh, God.

Dad chuckled and I shook my head.

“If you say so” I muttered and moved to the cupboard to fetch Roman some cereal. “What will it be today, Manny?”

“Moon and Stars.”

I make a face at the contents of the cupboard.

“I don't see any Moon and Stars, Manny.”

“But grandma opened a new box just last Friday,” he said.

“Well, there's nothing in here” I closed the cupboard. “You sure?”

“Yes, I opened it myself,” Mom said, “It couldn't have just disappeared from there.”

“That's because it didn't” Aubree cut in as she walked in with Leslie. “Morning everyone.”

I gave her a look.

“You're behind this?”

“That would be me” Leslie chuckled.

“You?” I asked. “You ate my son's cereal?”

“And all his soy-free cookies,” Aubree said amusingly.

“Which I'm going to replace” Leslie smiled.

“When? Pray tell?” I frowned.

“Today” he quickly replied, “As soon as I remember the brand name.”

I shook my head and turned to my son.

“How about some love toasts, baby? Or I could make you some banana cream pie oats?”
